Mixing tunes of different BPM

Not sure if this is the right forum or if there's any similar thread.

But anyway, what kind of techniques do u guys use to mix songs of different tempo when djing/making mixes? i know theres the tape delay effect, the abrupt switch, and a few more. But would love to hear some crazy ideas.

I pull up the first track, yell "blap" a couple times into my mic, big up a few friends/producers and then drop the second track. BLAP BLAP BLAP!

edit: I'd throw a few "Jah Rastafari"s in for good measure also.

Hahahah. BLAP! Also, I forgot to say that I'm not really a DJ, I dont even own a mixer. I'm mapping my drum pads as a makeshift mixer and I dont have enough knobs for EQ and shit. Lol. *waits for the haters to talk shit*

Jesus thats a hard question man, I really do know the answer honest, I jsut cant even begin to explain it, I could probably show you if we were both chillin in a room with some decks and whatnot =/...

I spent like 5 minutes typing and deleting replies to that...

I hope you dont take that as spam, I really dont mean for it to be even though it kinda is, I just cant put it into words vs. just showing you =/ ... But, in the top/most recent archive there I play tunes from a huge range of tempos, even some old funk stuff that isnt quantized at all, and I probably utilize every trick I know to make them work together...

If I'm playing dubstep I speed it up to half time dnb (around 175ish) then mix in something of that sort. For half time dnb, usually slow down to 140ish then mix the dubstep in or use a LP filter on the mixer. From electro to dubstep, i usually mix from the first snare so the snare on the 3rd matches up to the snare on the 4th bar of the house song; depending on the songs it songs weird sometimes.
That's just me though.

I like to use songs that change bpm as often as possible. Anywhere from 126ish-146ish i end up just flat beatmatching and letting the tempo grad get to where it needs to be. i don't like speeding up dubstep much past 145/146. idk. it depends. what people said, just make it work. that's a big thing that defines djs, i think.

I try to mix in with a track that has a decently long intro without drums, then you can just drop it in and fade out the other one during the break. By the time the next track builds up people are ready for the new tempo. I hate DJs that change tempo abruptly. Imo, a significant tempo change (like dubstep to DnB) should have a decently long lead in/build up to get the crowd ready for it.

If you don't have an ambient intro to work with, you can match the incoming track to the BPM of the one playing, and then slowly speed it up to it's proper speed during the buildup.

Worthless for tracks that arent electronic.

Same with EDM methods of beatmatching.

I use Ableton for my mixes. Matching different bpms is as simple as turning my bpm up or down with whatever knob I have mapped to control it. Another thing I like about Ableton is that I can name my "scenes" to the bpm of the song, so whenever i need the tempo to change, whatever bpm the scene name is will become the bpm when you launch the faster/slower track. Its always gonna be quite noticeable if you slow down or speed up any song though, but sometimes it can have interesting results.

Wtf is everyone talking about, if the tracks are different tempos (good chance) you match em using your pitch fader.
There are other ways to do it though, definitely if the difference is more than 10 %.
