i have 2 subwoofers

Post by Frodo Bassbins » Tue May 10, 2011 3:20 am

i have 2 subwoofers.i use 1 standard but im wondering if there is anyway to connect my other one so i can get one on each side of me.

both are pc subs meant for pc sound systems. they arent cheap, and 1 has slightly more wattage then the other. the room is decently sized about 10x10 feet.

what im wondering.. is there any easy way to connect the 2nd sub to be playing in sync with the first 1 thx.

1. subs will sound better side by side or stacked on top of each other. bass is different and you cannot tell where it is coming from really. having them together gives a more powerful feeling.

2. usually if you are using 2 subs, you want to use 2 identical subs of the same watts. but for if your using pc sub woofers you obviously dont care too much about sound quality so it wont make much of a difference to you...

and yeah you can use a Y splitter

would this work? plugging a double sided headphone jack into the headphones socket off the 1 speakers playing then connect that to the sub?

well im not sure.. the audio is coming out of my computer originaly, which in turn gets sent to my pc speakers via double sided headphone jack conecting from the sub woofers imput to the back of my pc.. so would the y splitter connect to my pc? 1 headphone jack to the main system thats being powered and 1 to the other? im really confused here.

it will work. look up youtube vids or google kids using 2x logitech z2300's

ppl do it all the time. but like i said its not ideal for sound quality. it is pretty ideal for looking and sounding like a shmuck though :dunce:

i would not use two subs... under any circumstance other then if i were playing a gig....

but hey, if it suits u.... ull prolly produce very energetic slobby music, and i love that...

take the better sub and give me the other one.

not nonsense. look up anything to do with multiple sub placement. they should always be placed side by side or stacked...anybody will tell you that. and look at any proper gig, they will never have their subs spread out, they will all be side by side or stacked on top of one another, or sometimes a combination of both..

plus he said his subs are different which would be even more of a reason not to separate them. then it would sound weird and off balance..

there is divergence of opinion even amongst professionals, so yes, argue with the sound engineer!

i love these discussions :D posting can get you lazy and these kinda get people to elaborate on their point.

i can't see how using two low quality subs in a room that side will help for producing?

but here it appears that one's done a bit too much reading ("look it up, anyone will tell you" etc.) ...
while the other has done more than enough doing, to tell us whats really up.

I just know that big long bass waves take more airspace/length to fully cycle before hitting your body/ears, so being right up next to them is less than ideal for experiencing the wave.
From that i deduce that you might get more power by spreading your sub placement across longer distance. Perhaps one on each side of you, as far away as comfortably possible. then you get sandwiched by the sub wave. Boooom!
