Other people are Mala, more simple bass patches but his melody's and flow are sick. Mala's hi hats are another level too, mine sound good one day, then I listen to DMZ and my hats sound like some robot has stuck some hits on a grid.

Thanks:) I have been lurking and been trying to make noises. I spend most of the time with my head in my hands tho lol.
A million +1s for that. Mala doesn't get enough attention these days. I guess for obvious reasons but I miss the days when someone said 'dubstep' to you and you immediately thought DMZ. :\
Always the first port of call for me also.

I go through bouts of writers block brought on by being discouraged. I was doing quite well for myself on the scene but as soon as I started worrying about getting releases and gigs, two things happened. Firstly I started writing boring music, and secondly I got really discouraged because I would then compare these lack lustre tunes I had written to what my peers and idols were making. And then just deaded any vibes I had whilst writing or playing out. So I stopped producing for quite a long time. Only once I had started doing something different, been inspired by working with people and listening to random stuff again did I really want to make music again and actually end writing something decent and unique (though the scene changed so much I missed my opportunity).

So I can only really echo what's been said before, take a break, go and listen to something else, working with other people (particularly in a band) did wonders for me.

Girls, I find there's not much more inspirational than pretty girls. So get on that ting as well.
:W:
I need to hook up with like minded people. Been sitting in a cave twiddling buttons for years now.

I dont get writers block, I have loads of ideas. I just cannot make the sounds!
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Although I love the OP, Kaori sure knows how to write a funny and interesting post. I still think breaks are essential to stop 1. losing perspective 2. disappearing up your own arsehole.
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

I wish i had a partner w/ opposite skill sets

If your not having fun, then why are you doing it?

I just love making music, sometimes it goes well, other times it don't, but as long as I am having fun making it that is all what matters to me. I don't really compare my music to other peoples, I like to concentrate on playing my own game.

Occasionally I jam out with my wife in the studio. She knows nothing about music but can write hooks like it was nothing, drives me crazy, neway, we were jamming out some seriously mad shit, wild, just crazy shit.

Afterward, we were sitting back listening to what we had done, we were pretty blown away by our results.

I looked at her, and I was like you ready for the click of death? She's like wat? Played this toon:

haha, we were devastated.

Listen dood. It is time for you to work up two tracks, all the way, like all the way, and get them mastered and cut to a dub. I think you'll be happy with the results. I know it is money, but just do it. Stop chasing your tail. Seriously though.

nowhere wrote:Hey, I've been trying to get in to production for a handful of months and I cant help but get discouraged. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by many talented artists and because of this every time I sit down to write a tune I am nothing but disappointed. I know I shouldnt be comparing myself to these people but I cant help it. Any advice on getting over the discouragement and putting the time in to get good... I know this may sound ridiculous but I feel like I'm up against a wall right now
just compare your tunes to your friends tunes if they produce! or just study loads and experiment is key as anyone on this forum will tell i don't think I would need to repeat it. but experiment a lot in your favorite synth and just approach the synth in different ways with different techniques you have learned or watch vids to learn more about synthesis then once you have build up a good mini library of decent sound patches start experimenting with tracks. what really helps me is when i am designing patches and come up with something amazing then that helps me with my confidence and to keep on going

Pretend that when he says "story", he's actually saying "tunes".

That video is straight good. I kind of already knew that but he explained it perfectly. I'm sending it to a few creative friends that are in that first phase.
