I think it's helping put some females in the place.

I like it. We are moving energy. The Sine v.s The Saw.

Can you put a square wave algorithm in the ripple deformer and then explode it all to noise dust at the end of the loop? That would take in to account petsorb and that other thing that no-one can seem to "coin" a phrase for.

I agree with everything you wrote - i just have one question. Those artists you mentioned, specifically "distal" whom i've never heard of until just now - how is he / they giving anything a run for their money? I just listened to 4 distal tracks and they all sounded similar to someone with a sampler pressing buttons over a pretty weak beat :(

Maybe i heard the wrong tracks or just didn't listen intently enough... i'd like to consider myself both open minded with an above average ear but maybe i'm just missing this one.

Let's just call it electronic music again, seeing that producers are so diverse these days when it comes to mixing up styles.

Yet more speculation...

-- A MAP OF THE LAST 50 YEARS OF ELECTRONICAL MUSICAL PROGRESSION --
--------------------------------------------- by -------------------------------------------
SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO 0.1% OF IT FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS

House->Party>Garage>Party>Club>Party>Warehouse>Party>Party>Party>Field/Beach/Park>Party/Cave>Party>Service Station/Police Station/Hospital> and repeat until well done.

Can't we move on? We're all music journos now to some extent. Just try and be a better one.

@Kurups

Distal is a good producer who's been pushing things forward in his own decent and respectful manner for quite a while now. Just my opinion, not that it counts for anything. Check this one if you haven't already, lovely stuff:

If you believe in yourself enough it just might happen, treacle.

I wasn't trying to make sense of it. That was the point. Just listen to the music and enjoy it. Pretty obvious when you don't think about it.

Anyway, back to cartoons...

You're right, why discuss music on a music forum? Thanks for helping me unconfuse!

I didn't mean there's anything wrong with discussing music in terms of the artist, influence, audience, location & environment, along with the more specific technical factors like mode, colour & feel of the sound. Of course I would expect people to have an interest in where the collective trend in these elements are moving and try to give them a context, I do too. It's just trying to define terms and names for that stuff which had already been around for ages seems a bit stupid and a massive waste of loads of people's time.

Dubstep is a just process which for better or worse has changed the way we create & consume music. I don't yet think it's a genre that is static and defined. Even the name "dub-step" implies a dynamic. There's still many changes to come.

It's alright. The first tune is the one.

Good interview here if you missed it: http://www.factmag.com/2010/11/16/lv-si ... etrotters/

It was in the main thread but that's fallen off the front page now.

Basically what happened is 99% of the people on here blindly bum a few different producers etc, one of whom is Loefah.

Loefah started putting out more house inspired stuff on Swamp and the average user on here was like "this is fiyah! this is my 2010 tip" (possibly without even hearing it first).

So then they bought up all the Boddika stuff etc, but of course had to also buy more stuff to mix with it, so bought some slightly older releases on Hessle and so on (when these were originally released they were probably blissfully unaware stuff like this existed).

This would explain it's recent popularity, coupled with the fact the 140bpm halfstep stuff is declining in popularity due to being done to death by everyone for a few years, also nobody has an attention span long enough these days to not get bored by something very quickly, before needing something new to get into.

dubstep producers can afford real 808's and 909's from ebay auctions now.
