I'm starting a charity, can you help?

Post by futures_untold » Sun May 15, 2011 10:49 pm

Hello Dubsteppers

In the spirit of Futures Untold and being helpful to people, I'm starting a charity.

---------------------------------------------

The idea is simple;

1billionforcharity.org

- Raise £1 billion.
- Donate the bank interest to the top user voted charities every week

If you have any ideas to contribute or want to help, there is plenty to do which does not require any specific skills.

For instance, I need to find the contact details of corporate donors and separately, want to contact as many student unions as possible.

If someone could forward me any contact details they could find for any organisation it is felt would be worth contacting, then PM me. :)

Thanks

Patrick :)

Yup. Which is why it will work and why I need your help.

If 1 million small people like you and me donate £1 to charity today, that would be £1 million for charity right there.

If I go to institutional donors like the Bill and Malinda Gates foundation and ask them to match my sum, then very very quickly we'd have £1 billion.

I'm unsure what the interest would be from £1 billion (it would probably vary over time), but it would amount to several thousand at least.

Painless for you and me, makes a big difference for the people charities help! :)

Thanks bru :)

I want to see if a DSFer is willing to help me on this, because it keeps thing more personal and managed within the community.

I am still going to check that link out though. Just hoping they don't have restrictive tlds....

Hey that's really cool! :)

Actually, I bet you do know enough to get the first page up and running.

Would you be willing to create an empty template with the relevant mark up for me?

I was thinking something very basic to start with.

- Main logo at the top
- Donation link underneath
- Main mission statement underneath
- Some sketch pictures to illustrate the main points
- Another donation button at the bottom
- Footer with email address

- Whole profile centred
- White bg, Sky blue headers
- Dark grey text
- Green links

If you'd be willing to knock up a template, that would help massively while I write the first batch of content.

Patrick :)

I don't know anything about hosting a site, but good luck with the project ;-)

Hiya JS (can I call you that?)

I'm going to draw some pictures (sketches) using my wacom to illustrate various points made in the textual content of the site. Check http://www.dvzine.org/zine/01-toc.html for a very rough idea of where I'm heading with this presentation idea.

If you could simply create a html page with some blank hr, p, img & and href tags that initself would be great :)

if you get this going in the us in the next couple of months let me know the details and shit, i will find you small sponsors and donations this could potentially work hand in hand with my business plan and i will not have to start a charity myself.

i have loads of space and bandwidth i can donate but not really time to get involved with html etc.

it also can easily install wordpress or other types of 'frameworks'

Let me know if you want.

Id ideally give you access to some space and let you get on with it ...

Thanks for the responses and offers for help guys! :)

After some more thought I've decided I'm going to shell out for some paid hosting to avoid extra layers of complexity arising.

Regarding everything else, help still appreciated!

PM me

Patrick

You could get the people on here to do some tracks for a charity album or something to raise some cash. I am pretty decent with photoshop etc if you ever need some artwork done. Good luck with it all!

I think a charity album is a great idea, it could help people get exposure too.
Too bad I'm not experienced enough to contribute to the album

I don't exactly have any useful skills but you have my support futures :W:
