Breakdown drums, plz help!

Post by Blastfome » Tue May 17, 2011 8:30 pm

Hey everyone. I've been working on a few tracks lately and I've always been wanting to do one thing that could add a little more depth to my tracks. In my songs during the breakdown sections, or when ever I feel like it really, I want to have some more "realistic" sounding drums to kinda lead into another phase. It's kinda hard to explain so i'll give an example.

Here in Skrillex's song Cinema, you can hear instances of him using these more "realistic" sounding drums. The drums can be heard around 2:28.

It adds so much depth to the song and they can be just plain FRESH!

So do any of you know where I can find some decent sounding drums like these to give it that feel? I already have Vengeance packs, but as far as I can tell with the ones I have, there are only just the basic kicks, snares, etc.

Any info would be great appreciated, thanks! :4:

Deadly drums are good, there are thousands of packs out there though, just google it and listen to the free samples they provide and see which pack takes your fancy.

What the tom samples? Check out this http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/andy ... -here.html it's got some nice tom + cymbal samples in it. Either that or try sampling some breaks and chopping them up.

Yeah those are just classic Rock style toms. They're meant to sound more theatrical, I wouldn't call it "realistic".

Thanks everyone! That helped a lot. Now I can add more depth to my tracks. But yes, I agree with that term theatrical. I couldn't think of anything at the time that I posted this. lol. A lot of good drums in those links up above ^ Thanks mate :-)

Does anyone else feel like Skrillex may have sampled a type writer of some sort for his hi-hats he used in this cinema tune? haha, just a thought...
