Your supervisor is a fucking massive twat.
Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
i know, its fucking stupid
theres two managers coming down from other stores too for it.
one as a witness/notetaker and the other is basically the one that decides my fate
anyone know the deal with quitting as an temp? do i still need to hand a notice in and everything or can i just quit that same day?
cant find anything in the contract about it

I used to work at virgin active and if you hadn't passed your probation period you could just leave on 3 days notice, might be something similar??Sheff wrote:i know, its fucking stupid

if you want to quit, quit. just walk out, its not like they can physically stopyou from going is it?Sheff wrote:i know, its fucking stupid

if you've got to a point where you're probably going to get fired for gross misconduct then just walk, theres no reference in it for you anymore. the only reason people give notice is so they can get a reference when they come out the other side.
whats the worst they can do?
"right, fuck it i'm off"
"ummm, no, you can't you've still got 4 hours of you're shift"
"yeah but i'm leaving"
"well no, you HAVE to stay!"
"nah, fuck that i'm off"
"if you leave now then consider yourself sacked"
"you can't fire me, I QUIT!"
i did it once and got to say that line "you cant fire me, i quit!" was one of the best moments of my life! haha
Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
haha nice
and would be nice to be able to get a reference from them after working there so long
i thought they had to give a reference stating how long you worked there/how much time off you had and such, so if i just walk out and quit i wont be able to get a reference at all?

Yeah most references these days are pretty much just that. They cant 'by law' give you a bad reference. Only state facts.

this. but its all about reading between the lines. theres obviously a difference between just confirming that you did work for them and your ex-manager actually bothering to write something good about you as an employee.
s'up to you though. does fel good to walk out of somewhere though!

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
You say you're a temp.... did you get it through an agency? If so just ask the agency. You could always go to the Citizens Advice Buraeu ting and ask them. I think it's complete bullshit anyway all this. Why the fuck does what you write on Facebook matter lol. I don't think it's going to effect their turnover much
I would say just walk, but as you've worked there so long you'll need a reference to cover that period.
I walked out on a pub job I did..... was on holiday (booked) and had a week booked off after too, they somehow managed to get the fucking hotels phone number I was staying at, to ask me to work the afternoon I got back lol.

Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
you won't have much of a notice period as a temp sheff. i've got a week's notice period but i'm on a three month rolling contract, and like people have said they can't do anything other than refuse to give a reference if you leave
i wish i had anything remotely resembling drama at work. i've barely had anything to do in over a week at work (full time), and trust me it's fucking boring. i've maybe done a few hours total but none of it is stuff that i should actually be doing
i'm so bored it's unreal
still, they're paying me a fairly good wage to sit about listening to music, eating, drinking cups of tea, and wasting time on the internet. i never thought i'd be looking forward to doing a full days work

they cant refuse to give ou a reference they just wont put very much detail in and that is obviously a 'bad' reference. they have to confirm you worked there if you ask them to.
also, i feel you on the not having anything to do at work and it being a bad thing. sometimes at my job i can go for 30 minutes without taking a call. often theres sound people to talk to but sometimes theres literally nothing to do. can really get you down...
Re: The things that pissed you off today ™ thread
ah fair enough then
the last time i did anything related to my actual job was tuesday last week, other than an attempt to do some yesterday which failed after half an hour of trying to get the software running and then i was back to doing nothing. my manager wasn't even in the office today heh. fucking ridiculous really but at least they've not noticed and told me not to come in
