The future of DSFP - one week review...
Well, it's a been a week since I became a moderator. Thoughts & feedback so far?
Re: The future of DSFP - one week review...
I'm happy with you locking the 'how do i make this sound' threads, but I noticed you don't lock all of them. So if you are locking these, you should lock ALL of them, whatever the sound asked is. Could be that you missed them tho, if so, then consider this not posted
Just to name a few on the first page

Other than that, its all good, place got alot better imo

Re: The future of DSFP - one week review...
Three of those threads were posted when I was not online, hence their being left open. If I see threads that have been posted when I am away that still have little/no replies to them when I return, then I will lock them and direct people to the How To Make This Sound thread. However, I do not want to close off topics where sound design is being discussed and conversation is still onoing. An alternative would be to merge the threads with the How To... thread, but this could lead to confusion and people's posts getting lost.Project EX wrote:I'm happy with you locking the 'how do i make this sound' threads, but I noticed you don't lock all of them. The fourth thread was made before I was a moderator.

All is fine then

I think your doing a great job. The threads I'm not interested in reading have padlocks on them and the interesting ones hover around the top. Keep it up.

i think you should sticky the make that sound thread if youre locking all topics about making sounds- as it can be quite easy to miss floating around in the middle

Ok my thoughts are, good job on the locking of spam threads. I'd personally like to see these accounts deleted as they're just annoying. And good job on locking 'hey check my tune' threads.
However i don't really agree with the extent of the locking on some of the other threads. Just referring everyone to a big generic pile of threads all the time doesn't really help that much. A lot of people have read and reread the entire production bible, midrange bass thread etc and just want a bit more help.
Also i've never been keen on having one massive how to make this sound thread, as it usually turns into 50 pages of requests to sift through. I'd rather see each how to make this sound get answered and discussed, and if nobody can help then lock it.
Finally, as far as locking goes, i also believe in free speech, and don't like to see people get shut down all the time just because someone decides that the topic is uninteresting. For example, there was one about void vst that got locked, yet i'd like to have seen it discussed.
It seems that i'm in the minority here, but i'm not one to lie and like to give my honest opinion. If thats the way its going to be from now on then fair enough, i'm just giving my feedback!

Agree and disagree. I havent seen wub locking any how to make this sound threads that:VirtualMark wrote:Ok my thoughts are, good job on the locking of spam threads. I'd personally like to see these accounts deleted as they're just annoying. And good job on locking 'hey check my tune' threads.

1. Are active, he's only locking ones without replies and directing them somewhere they will get better noticed.
2. Arent repetitive. Obviously, when there are multiple topics devoted to the same sound on the first page alone, they need locked or merged.
Also, on the note of anti-mega-threads, when you have the most people in a single place pulling ideas, things get done faster. And its nice to have them all in one place because when Im in the mood to talk synthesis I know exactly where to go to be able to help decipher a bunch of patches. Im sure Im not the only person who thinks that way either, Ive never noticed the how to make this sound thread getting particularly one-sided, most of the requests I see get ignored are done to death, already covered, ect.

I agree with VirtualMark especially on the Void thread being locked.

i kinda thought a couple of locks were a bit overzealous (namely the filter vst thingy, as stated above), but on the whole,
the place has gotten better, and you are much appreciated

I said at the time that if more details came about on Friday (today) when it was released that I'd re open the thread.
It's Friday, there are more details, so the thread has been unlocked

Re: The future of DSFP - one week review...
First of all... It really became a better place on here!
About the 'how to make this sound thread'... Isn't it possible to make a subforum for it?
One thread is really annoying to get trough & to many posts like 'how to make this (skrillex) sound' make the forum confusing...
But it's one of the main things that belong on a production forum, imo. Reading threads like this approved my production a lot & I think it could be instructive for everyone!
Really... discussing advanced processing & giving tips to achieve a sound are one of the most instructive things for improving your own production skill!
Am I wrong?
Cheers
EDIT: If it's possible to make a subforum like this... You could make some rules to keep it tidy. For exemple: a rule to keep topics very clear & simple... Like "Mount Kimbie Vocal cuts - Before I move Off" Or something like that... Dunno?

+ 1 for multiple "how do I make this sound" threads
+ 1 for not locking threads for subjective reasons. No need to be so conservative, many threads that got locked, turned into endless ranting or silly debates could have been constructive.
Everyone is a mod really : not posting in spam/lame/redundant/trolling threads is just like locking them.
Re: The future of DSFP - one week review...
Yeah, except this doesnt happen does it mate? Troll/spam/lame/redundant threads just get filled up with flaming and stupid in fighting.daft tnuc wrote: Everyone is a mod really : not posting in spam/lame/redundant/trolling threads is just like locking them.
