Tijuana Bass Vol 2 [RogueDubs] Out now!

Tijuana Bass is a bass-heavy, dancefloor oriented, mutated blend of many contemporary and time-tested musical styles. Though mainly influenced by Cuban and Mexican style cumbia and mambo rhythms, Tijuana Bass is appropriately named because of it’s origin, San Diego, CA., USA. TJ Bass was originated by San Diego based producers, EshOne and Misk.

While there are no limitations to this style of dance music, the existing productions have a lot in common, and are generally latin influenced. TJ Bass tracks commonly feature a 4/4 kick drum pattern, seemingly offset by reggaeton/cumbia style staggered snare hits, along with a half-step clap on every third note, similar to dubstep. TJ Bass tempo is also centered around the 140 bpm range. Upbeat and heavy basslines are a non-negotiable with the genre. This, along with the half step patterns, makes it friendly to mix with dubstep, and can take dubstep DJ sets to a whole new level in dancefloor energy.

TJ Bass generally features a lot of samples, throwing back to the golden days of cumbia and mambo music in Central and South America. Dead//Technology at the Kava Lounge in San Diego, CA., is the first club night to feature Tijuana Bass. Producer and dubplate selector EshOne threw TJ Bass into more than half of his normally dubstep centered DJ set to hungry crowd, who erupted in dancefloor fury. EshOne has since built many a TJ Bass tune, as more and more DJs from the UK to NZ are dropping these tunes into their sets.

Tijuana Bass isn’t strictly for the ladies, but fellas better bring their dancing shoes if they want to keep up.
