Brother Mouzone is the scene stealer.

Mouzone's literally the only character I'm not overly keen on, all seems a little bit too contrived to me, definitely the least 'real' or plausible character in there...

he is really good, but pretty minor overall in the 5series so never really comes to mind. when he comes back though and hunts out omar and sends his sidekick into the gay bar, that shit is funny and also see rawls hanging out there. i actually think there is a subplot where rawls either fancies jay or is getting some from jay which is why jay gets away with doing nothing but sitting at his desk reading porn.

Along with Omar.

I do like them both, but they're definitely a bit far fetched.

Omar is plausible?

Herc and Carver are very contrived too.

That reminds me, watching the first series and the first few episodes again the other week... am I being stupid but is Bubbles gay? I get the feeling he was in a sexual relationship with that white boy who was beaten up for trying to rip off D'Angelo Barksdale's crew with fake money. Bubbles is indirectly responsible for bringing the whole investigation. Never really occurred to me how pinnacle Bubbles was to this until the other night and it would take love or something like it to bring that kind of vindication out of a person.

Anyway...... has anyone seen this? Things I hate about The Wire:

http://clamnuts.com/things-i-hate-about-the-wire/1584

I agree with this bit:
Number 5: The pub scenes

Image

Okay so the last one was weak but THIS one you have to agree on. I hate when all the police sing The Pogues in the pub. It’s like American Tale or that scene in Titanic where all the loveable Irish rogues are partying to fiddle music. It’s so corny. We get it. ‘Freeborn men of the USA’. Probably partially forgiveable if you consider how many Americans consider themselves Irish and that they think singing The Pogues is what we do.

It makes me cringe. I love The Wire’s smart use of background music so when everybody suddenly starts singing together it’s horrible. HORRIBLE.
But then I do have a problem with Americans who consider themselves as Irish as the peat of the Bog of Allen because their great great grandad died of dysentery on a ship bound for the United States from Belfast Port.

Don't think so. During a NA meeting in the 5th series he goes on about looking lustfully at pretty girls when he was a youngster.

Bromance, perhaps. Penetration, I don't reckon so.

interesting theory but i don't think it was like that, if anything i think bubs felt he was responsible for his mate in a father figure kind of way. think he always feels cut up about how his influence has made his mate and got him battered and made him more of a fiend etc...

as for the pub thing, it IS corny but that's how pigs in yank do seem to be especially with all the wannabe irish connection.

Bubs aint gay lol

i think its just demonstrating the darker, seedier side of crack addiction; the older, more experienced user schools the understudy.

a lot of its based on real life experiences, I reckon characters like Rawls' are based on real guys, the bit with him in a gay bar was so brilliant, I genuinely believe he's based on a real guy and the writers slotted that in as 'fuck you' to him

yeah Simon/ Burns were actually Baltimore crime journalists or something along those lines... apparently a lot of the wire is a great representation of how shit in reality went down in Bmore, probably a reason why it is so good

if you peeps haven't checked treme yet you NEED to get on that, the amount of sick music on there is untrue. the guys who play bunk and lester freamon feature heavily.

treme's good but i don't find myself getting immersed in it like i did with the wire. it was hard to stop watching episode after episode of the wire but i've been weeks between episodes in treme

slim charles is also in it briefly btw

Rawls was gay, however. No doubt about that - they made it that quite clear cut. Rawls resented his sexuality and that's why he came across as a cunť.

Remember the mirror scene with Rawls?

I like it but I am quite happy to let it meander along unwatched, where as The Wire (and Generation Kill), I'd have to watch.
