KOAN sound - Mr Brown: what genre?

Post by meow meow » Thu May 26, 2011 11:02 pm

Apparently this is at 100BPM. What does that make it? :<

Just curious.

So there's no specific name for music that resides in that tempo? If I no one told you it was at 100 BPM you'd deem it dubstep.

Nope. That's glitch hop and I would have said so no matter what tempo you told me it was.

Look up edIT, the rest of the glitch mob and vibesquad for more stuff in that style.

EDIT: I don't understand why people get their knickers in a twist about genres round here. Not everything has to be so original it's unclassifiable you know. If genre groups weren't useful and valid we wouldn't have them.

No. I can tell it's not 140 anyway. And in all honesty, I really wouldn't care... :lol:

well the bpm suggests maybe sped up drumstep because for example 90bpm = 180bpm if the drums are double time
so 100bpm is just like 200bpm drumstep basically
cant be bothered explaining in depth but this particular song has no elements of dubstep in so i wouldn't consider it 100bpm drumstep although all this other 100bpm stuff it..

this is probably just electro-pop tbh

It's quite a well known genre now, that koan track is just a bit more overdriven than most people in the scene do it;

I can't get my head around all of the subgenres, so I just call it dubstep/drumstep :P

It's not a subgenre :s it developed totally independently. You wouldn't call Electro a sub-genre of Dubstep would you O.o

It's bass heavy, and a little faster than drumstep, qualifies for me :P
Nah JK, but really can't keep up with everything :s

dont care what genre it is, but its not drumstep, cos according to the laws of music thats like 170 bpm and half time, this is just 100bpm, its not halftime anything its just a synthy bass heavy tune with a rocking hip-hopish beat
