How do you file a UK rebate request?

Post by test_recordings » Sat May 28, 2011 9:01 pm

Got taxed well over the odds last year (well, any tax would have been over the odds because I didn't meet an thresholds) but I don't know how to claim it back? Any experience of how to get it done fast and accurately?

youve got no chance of getting it back fast, or accurate. best thing to do is go to your local tax office and ask them. then get ready to fill in bare forms...

...I know a bit.......if you ain't working for the employer anymore complete one of these http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pdfs/p50.pdf and send it to your local tax office. Refunds should take about a month.

this isnt true. i asked for a statement of earnings from HMRC and then photo copied it and sent a letter to them saying i thought i'd been over taxed. a couple of weeks later i got a letter saying that someone was looking into it and would be in touch.

except for one letter i had to send, i'd worked for a dodgy cash in hand place that didnt pay any tax for me, it was really easy. should only really take 6 weeks if there's no problems. mine was 3 months and i hardly had to do anything.

just got a letter with a big fat cheque through the post one day. good times!

well it took me fucking ages to get mine back! spose it must be different in each circumstances. i know for a fact its easier for them to get tax off me, than it is to get my overpiad tax back off them!

I just did some reading and because I overpaid in the previous year I have to contact HMRC to explain the situation. I got taxed because I didn't fill out form P38S but that information isn't exactly advertised widely :? http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/overpaid-thro-job.htm

Ta for the responses though! At least I have some inkling of what could happen now :W:
