Who gives a fuck really, how can you be 'embarrassed' by the word dubstep?

I mostly listen to hip-hop, and that has produced some absolutly terrible artists and rappers in the last 10-15 years in the mainstream, from Puff Daddy to 50 Cent to Birdman to Gucci Mane etc etc, but when people ask me what i listen to i still say hip-hop even though i know they probably instantly think of dumbed down synth beats with boring predictbale lyrics about how much money and bitches you got. Fuck em.

The way i see it, if someone asks me what im into, i say hip-hop and dubstep. If they want me to elaborate i will explain that its not the commercial shit and i will gladly tell them who i listen to/dont listen to etc. If they are so fuckin igorant to just go with what their assumptions of the music is and what has programmed into their heads and not ask any further, then fuck em. Probably not music fans anyways.

jesus christ, it's hardly gone completely commercial has it, yes a few plays on daytime radio, but it's not like the whole world is onto it, even if your whole world has.

that dealt with, it's hardly spineless, dubstep has become a buzzword, so describing your taste as that will just bring all that hype with it, using some more description will communicate the sorta tunes you like more effectively, that's what people are saying to you.

Sure, and that's why I don't like to answer with "dubstep and rock/metal", because if they are going to define me by that they'll have a totally inaccurate picture of me, as the stuff I listen to is most probably 1000 miles from their ideas of what dubstep & metal sound like.

If I answered honestly "Oh like...slow, low, industrial '06 dubstep, doom/sludge/avant garde metal, 60s/70s psychedelic Dad-rock."...people would =

yeah you should be proud of what music you like, but its when you say you like dubstep and the majority of people think you like some fucking gash screechy shit, so then, its not that they are embarrased because because people will be like 'ahh you like dubstep, thats shit hahahaah you a twat' its cos they will be like 'oh shit yeah man i fuckin love dubstep! ahh man modestep are like the best! im gonna go see doctor p live next week wanna come?'

I dont listen to much dubstep anyway though so i got no problem, i just say electronic music or some shit.
