Started buying vinyl when I was about 15/16 and listening to a lot of DIY punk who still released 7" and LPs even through their own pocket. Wasn't about the money and that's why I respect vinyl only labels in dubstep, it isn't just about the profits.

I started DJing because of DMZ too. It inspired to buy EDM music on vinyl and get creative instead of just playing records from start to finish. Shame that is going the way it is, especially since I am pretty new to the dance music in general.

sweet selection here. love those old eski cuts, really need to get myself to a few record shops and online to stock up on old grime cuts.
:4:
discogs is good, you can find some bargains as well, and normally the sellers do deals if you buy a few

I'd definitely be buying vinyl if I could afford to constantly purchase releases, but as a student and someone who works really hard for their money already, I just can't do it. I purposely invested in CDJs so that I wouldn't be consistently dropping cash on vinyl releases that I'd also have to lug around with the rest of my setup. I'd LOVE to be able to do this one day, and if things go well, I could very well make the transition to vinyl, but for now, it's just not gonna happen :/ Sticking 'digi.

having a smile to yourself when you first hear that crackle on a 200-limited white label thinking, i'm one of only a few who have this tune, is what it's all about. long live vinyl, big up everyone who is keeping it alive//

Obviously vinyl is the best, but I like all of the above.

"vinyl is an addiction, and no amount of 1's and 0's is going to change that"
Even God would say :z: to that.

CD for me. I don't have the money or equipment for vinyl and and I want something tangible when I buy music. And because CD's sound fantastic and don't degrade over time.

I sold my pioneer cdj 400s and got myself some technic 1200s last month. I started to buy a few records and had in mind i'd get serato whilst i have the cash to do so. My first time i properly went shopping for some records to mix with i instantly realised how it could be a deadly/beautifull relationship, killer on the pocket but pleasure on the soul.

So i purchased serato second hand and thought it was an absoloute novelty and i get the best of both worlds, wax + digital.... however i realised once i had enough records to actually have a mix with I really prefer mixing with actual records in comparison to serato. I don't know whether it's because it's the novelty of all the records being new, i haven't actaully faced a point where there's tunes I want and I got no money for them, so i'm sure serato will come into it's own then. But right now I can't get enough of vinyl. I'll have to give it some time to actually decide though as it's all fairly new to me. My initial thoughts were to just buy vinyl only releases and everything available digitally on digital, that went out the window within a day or so and i've brought everything on wax since.

when i first started buying records it was the same for me, so many tunes i wanted, so you really have to build up a collection over time, not try and splash out all at once, of course.

although it's pretty expensive, and the economy is tough for everyone, still can't beat the feelin'

CDs do have a shelf life. They degrade in the same way that a vinyl record does although they do last a he'll of a lot longer

I was talking about this with a friend yesterday. Thought that it might be because .wav/.flac are so widely available nowadays, and storage space is so cheap that you can have thousands of .wavs stored on a little box at the side of your computer.

Also, CD's don't quite have the coolness/culture/ultimate sound quality (don't wan't another debate about vinyl being better than any other format) that vinyl does.

Just a thought.

I think so too, I haven't got that many CD's because I still buy everything on vinyl, but the CD's that I díd buy are just collecting dust in my clouset really...
For example, I bought both of Burial's albums on CD after already having them on vinyl just because he deserves the money, but because it's so much easier to just open FooBar and double click the tune to listen to it, than to get the CD, open it, open the disc drive, close it, wait for it to load, listen to the album, and do all steps again in reverse, I barely make use of the CD's...
So maybe it's just lazyness? :P

Vinyls are just cool. Eventhough I've got rips or digital releases of most of my vinyls by now, I still really like to play my plates. It's just an awesome feelin.

Im currently in the process of moving over to serato(slowly putting the money together) but i dont think ill ever stop buying vinyl. With serato i just want the option of carrying my whole record collection around in an easy way.Plus i love turntables and vinyl (i have a tonearm tattoo) so going to CDJ's just never interested me

Big up the vinyl lovers.

I'm pretty low on cash right now myself, I hate it not being able to get the records that I want..
I'm lucky though, me and 2 mates are sharing some decks now so we got eachothers collection to choose from wen playing.

We have a very tight "don't buy the same record as me" policy wich works out fine
