This could quite easily be concept photography for some dystopian themed movie.

It all looks staged imho, like this is the North Korea the tour company decided to let this guy photograph... When he said people going about their daily lives, I thought you would see people doing stuff other than posing in empty places...

Been to South Korea bunches, Seoul is an incredible city!

@fractal, agreed, its definitely staged, the government wouldn't dare let anyone take candid pictures anywhere they pleased lol. Seems like every building is a state office, military facility or construction on either of the two. Just more of a testament of how fucked they are.

i got really into north korea last year - it's definitely a mad social experiment they've got going on over there.

these docs are well worth a watch if you're interested in seeing more (which you are because you're in this thread)

A State of Mind
about 2 girls in a display team - stunning displays, and you see how their families live

National Geographic - Inside North Korea
a general doc about the country

North Korea - Crossing The Line
about an american soldier who defected TO north korea. the bit with his son will make you sit up and do a double take

Storyville - Kim Jong-Ils Comedy Club
really interesting one about a 3 danish guys who go there to put on a comedy show. one of the trio is handicapped, and so slurs his speech, meaning no one can understand him except for his mates. he slags the place off, while his mate pretends he's saying something else to the guide lol

The Game Of Their Lives
about the north korean football team in the '66 world cup, and finds out what they're doing now

Themepark 1984
general film made by a dutch guy who was allowed to film

Welcome To North Korea
a general film about the coutry by an english guy

Children of the Secret State - North Korea
about the famine and it's effects

CNN Presents - North Korea, Undercover in the Secret State
about the brutality of the regime

oh, and here's a blog of kim jong il looking at stuff

seen a CNN special or somesuch on N korea... the one with the fit asian woman. was pretty depressing. there's all these big wide roads, but never any cars travelling... no sign of commerce... no sign of people, really, in a lot of places. people pretty much just worship kim jong il as if he were a god. even if n korea had inspirations of war, they would implode on their own bankruptcy.

Travel with the Korean Friendship Association, and your dreams may come true!
David Scofield in the Asia Times Online in 2005 described the KFA as follows:
The group's activities include "information" seminars where the enlightened benevolence of Kim's rule is championed, all part of its "alternative" view of the North. The ragged wretched displays of poverty and starvation are edited out and the voice of North Koreans not in the direct employ of Kim Jong-il are conspicuously absent. In place of uncomfortable reality, the KFA offers vacation photos of "their" North Korea taken during recent, state supported visits, complete with bowling, golf, amusement parks and Karaoke with young female party members. Members write glowing pieces, oblations celebrating Kim Jong-il's wise rule. No starving people, torture, summary execution, penury or despair in the Korean Friendship Association's North Korea. Just golf, great meals and evenings in the company of Kim Jong-il's beauties.

Technically Kim Jong Il's father (Kim Il Sung) is still the president..
so when Kim Jong dies his son will just take over.

Right, I heard Kim Jong is the #1 individual purchaser of Hennessy..

Not to perv out but I would love to know the specifics of Kim Jong's sex life.

when kim il sung died, the country wasn't all the way down in the shitter like it is now. when the current kim dies, shit will hit the fan. hopefully in a revolutionary sort of way.

just watched a 5 part series on youtube "kim jong il's private paradise," basically a bunch of testimonies from people who have escaped n. korea. a lot of grim things about children in concentration camps, massive starving general populace, and distribution of humanitarian aid going straight to the 1% elite.

if n korea had massive oil reserves, we would have liberated them 10 years ago.
