I was about to play the 'notanothersubgenre' card...

When I decided to listen.
Very nice! Distinctive sound, really melodic and intresting.

I'm enjoying the vibes! I'll probably leave it to you guys to make since it's not really my swagga but it's pretty cool. :)

thats what he just said,

and what i was about to say...

joker is a hip hop dude.. he sounds a lot like an early timbaland... and i feel he has listenend to a lot of southern produced rnb from the very early 2000s, and to a heckload of western produced hip hop, which itself is mainly inspired by a certain fad in funk.. parliment, zapp and then... morris day and the time / prince, they all used these typa freaky leads and thick hendrix type chords...

funny how they called it purple :D

lets listen to sum apollonia :D

and praise roger troutman

...

EDIT : oh..and id have to add sumthin like that of course..

There are a lot of sweepy sort of Saw-waves with Square stabs, and they have a sort of 'fizzy' quality to 'em as well, like they're layered with white noise.
They're pretty easy to make. Combination of square/saw waves (whatever you fancy at the time), with a slow attack on an lfo modulating pitch by a fraction (only a few %). This gives that bendy sound but not when pressing the note initially, which gives a nice effect.

Interesting info and great troutman video, I need a semi automatic guitar lol. I can really see the inspiration there in the neverending leads, and bright stabby chords, but I really don't see how joker sounds like old timbaland. I got Tim's Bio n timbos slow rnb sounds about as close to joker as a superbike sounds like a mini.

And joker's the superbike.

i posted about that in one of my first threads... the fact that he was one of the first mainstream acts to actually use swing on a 140 bpm beat with very subby sounds and a whacky aesthetic..

my fav tim beats were the bollywood ones tho ahhaha

Lol early Tim wasn't as fresh as early joker, but I was talking more about the vibes. You can't dance to early Tim, only wine (I think they call it bump n grind in the states)

I,d take purple city over lobster n shrimp any day. :D

That said, you can definitely hear joker in tunes like My Love n Ayo Technology, and hear Tim in tunes like Holly Brook Park. Especially the drums.

not to troll or anything but i really think joker didnt influence timbaland as much as timbaland has influenced joker.. chronologically speaking its easy to defend!

altho timbaland does jack a lot of ideas.

Nah, not saying anyone took anything from each other lol, cost I'm with you on that statement.

More like they listened to the same stuff to get where they are now, I reckon timbo jammed to Roger Troutman when he was a kid too lol

lol timbaland has been producing for almost 20 years.

yes, im real sure he has !! :D ... but he is an influence to joker and a generation of producers, thats the point im trying to make, even tho a lot of europeans don't give american aritsts the credit they deserve, and a lot of americans think they've invented everythings.

timbaland's carreer has longevity, but he's not joker's contemporary in my eye...

its a tad bit like comparing photek to datsik...

Well said.

20 years into joker's production career and he should be kicking timbos ass all over the gaff, same with datsik. Hopefully dubstep will live on like hip-hop or at least dnb
