Good headphones?

Post by HyperWub » Wed Jun 01, 2011 10:58 pm

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster.

I wanted to buy some decent headphones. but I'm not too sure which ones to get, nothing with over-the-top ridiculous bass that'll inflate my head. a nice balance.

I would probably be willing to spend £100 max, any thoughts from you connoisseurs would be greatly appreciated!

Do you want these purely for production, or are you intending to DJ with them as well?

Stretch to £125 and get Senheisser HD-25s, literally the best headphones I have ever had. They hare very flat and have excellent bass response. I use them for DJing and for the occaisional midnight production sesh when I don't want to blow my neighbors away!

I use the Senheisser HD-25 for DJing but not keen on them for production.

I prefer using these headphones - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Ears-T ... _sv_edpp_i

Its always nice to try out different set ups.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Do any of you suggest against using ONLY headphones to produce a track, or is this a no no. My most recent track appeared to be off according to multiple sources of feedback, but in my headphones it sounded fine. When i play it on my computer speakers, its alot quieter without the sub but i was wondering if you all would suggest buying some monitors?

I always reference my mix on my cans but always mixdown on the monitors. They are far more accurate with the sound I find. IMO you really NEED a half decent set of monitors to produce a nicely finished track.

^^^^haha well that explains alot! Need a few paychecks first, but im going to make my next purchase some good monitors. Not only do i need them for producing, but i haven't been able to mix on my turntables in a longggg long time.

Hate to throw this off topic, but what monitors are you using? any features you know of that are a must when it comes to some monitors? And whats a good price and freq range i should be looking into? I appreciate the help, Sparx! :)^^^

I use ATH-M50's for production, ive used them once for mixing(i loved them, but my speakers broke right after :( . I can tell you these are legit for sure, i listen to my music and i can hear things ive never noticed before on other speakers. Now these are my first pair so i can't set them head to head with other brands, but for the price they are definitly worth it. Reviews seem to be great too!

They run around $150. Sorry i don't know how to convert to euros but im sure if you just search them you could find out how much they are in a sec! :D
