Attempt at a "jump up-ish" dubstep/breakbeat track. It's far from finished, just wanted to get some feedback before I work on it further.

ah my bad bev definitely give feedback later since I'm on my phone now and the intro is like a door opening but I chopped it so it's just the creckkk. a sword coming out of that pocket thing. a half life thing where's he's pulling a gun out and put those together and the other sounds is from the transformers intro the spinning noise and theirs a Reese I found and processed under it and that's about it
. sounds very complicated but it isn't I did add ring mod to one of the stabs though

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
That's a fat ass snare! All around solid track. I think the break/build-up could use a little work though, can't really put my finger on it.Blanx wrote:

@Mannyyyyy: Thanks! :3 I've never given much thought to sampling anything not inherently musical; like, I love tearing through drums, and pushing violins through loads of effects, but aside from the occasional vocal snippet or glass breaking, I haven't combined sounds like that. Thanks for the run-through; I've got to try that sort of thing now. >:D

That's a sweet bass line, I'm digging the ambient vibe. If you don't mind me asking, what effects are you using on the main wobble? They create a nice little artifact on the tail of those high notes.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
The intro is solid, although I'm not a fan of the lead synth before the drop. The drop itself kills though. Also, you may need to watch your sub levels. Even with the volume low, my headhones are rattling a bit too much.Specimen-Yarp wrote:

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
its actually just two basses layered on top of each other.id have to see what im using on it and im not at home atm. but as far as i can remember there is reverb, vocoder, bitcrush/distortion n a bit of eq. most of the variation comes from the envelope i think tho.orca wrote:BevOh wrote:Soundcloud

oh shit u mean the tail where it spikes? that is literally just a high note layered on top of the one that is playing..

Whatever you're using is working for you. I'm usually not a fan of minimal dub, but the atmosphere you have behind that bassline along with the sub layer makes the track feel huge.BevOh wrote:its actually just two basses layered on top of each other.id have to see what im using on it and im not at home atm. but as far as i can remember there is reverb, vocoder, bitcrush/distortion n a bit of eq. most of the variation comes from the envelope i think tho.orca wrote:BevOh wrote:Soundcloud

@EDN Mate, it's happened to me too many times before. I can't tell what your WIP was but I've commented on one of your tunes, nothing to critique about it, its a solid track: some mastering or mixing could really perfect it.
@orca Yeah I think I've commented on your track as well... but listening to the intro again, take what I said back. Intro is fine, but maybe the build-up could be a bit more than a doubling kick? Intro's one of those sections where you can go crazy with reverb, delays, pan, modulation etc. I think maybe even just a plain white noise sweep could do the trick.
I also think that the high synth gets a bit repititive towards the end: maybe have a low cut sweep towards the end of a few sections, switch it up a bit, or even bounce it down to audio and stutter it occassionally. Like I said though, it's a really sick beat. where'd you find the breakbeat samples, or did you record them yourself?
@BevOh The wobbles really nice mate, the vocals and verb fit perfectly.
@Teknian ......... wow. That bass is realllllllllly thick. It's the bass that everyone wants but struggles to find... bigs up man. I'm working towards that atm but I am NOWHERE near that. How do you get it? I've been chucking in various reeces through massive, normally with a bit of bandreject onsome classic distortion on, and then I use about 10-15 buses distorting it. I separate the bass into 4 frequency ranges, but I generally only distort my 200-500hz using lots of overdrive and the occassional phaser. Am I on the right track or am I just completely off and should just stop haha.
Anyways, huge tune mate, I hope you put it up for download soon.
Here's my track, made it all today. I think I went a little bit crazy with the bass... it seems to hold no tonality hehe. Intro's the only thing I haven't completed. Just wanting some feedback, on whether it sounds okay, in terms of structure, mixing and composition. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice man, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to buildups.MexicanKangaroo wrote:

The breakbeat is taken from the beginning of "Take the Money and Run" by the Steve Miller Band. I just layered it over two kicks (one I took from a death metal track), three snares, and used some ride samples to accent the hats. The actual oneshot samples I used are probably from a random primeloops samplepack.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
feeling this tune. Only thing i don't like as much is the kicks increasing till a generic vocal and then drop. Maybe something different for the intro that's not the standard formulaorca wrote:Soundcloud

@EDN, Really digging the track you posted. It's pretty calm but dark at the same time. Loving it.
@MexicanKangaroo, that track is pretty solid man. Loving the beat.
@orca, loving that grimy track. The breakbeat usage is awesome.
Sorry for not having much else to say, those are pretty great tracks.
I put what I have of this track together in about an hour and a half. Just today. Kind of a random thing haha. Either way, tell me which way I should go with it, and any feedback you have (good, or bad).

EDIT: I fixed up my track a little.

@EDN - I really liked your tune, the way the drums vary is interesting and the strings are nice.
@Envision - Your track has a hint of grime in it, I like grime.
@Orca - I like your drums. They fit nicely.
My track is in my sig, thanks.

@HelloSatan,
I'm enjoying the sound in your track man. It's very chilled out, and kind of reminds me of Death Cab and Angels and Airwaves, except more synthesized.
