Re: Discussion about illegal music downloads
I don't buy (or illegally download) MP3s as I rarely listen to them, I mainly listen to DJ sets when I'm not near my turntables.
I wouldn't pay for an mp3 because I mainly listen to music on vinyl and I don't have CDJs or Timecode.
If your a DJ who is, or is aiming to, getting payed gigs and your playing illegally download music your a complete prick though!

Re: Discussion about illegal music downloads
I download music illegally all day.
Haven't bought an album in a good 3 years.
People tend to bitch at me and tell me that I'm destroying the music industry, so then I remind them that I'm an artist myself who gives away 80% of his songs for free because I know this will get them heard. Then I have tunes on Beatport/iTunes or whatever that people can pay for if they want. If they don't want to, they can just find the mp3s on zippyshare or something, I don't give a fuck.
Live shows and merchandise is where the ca$h is.
I'm not worried about cash though.

Yesterday I spent 30 quid buying stuff I'd nicked over the past few weeks.

Would it make you feel better if I told you that most of the stuff I pirate is mid range cack? Bet it would.Sheff wrote:^ dickhead

I just treat other artists how I would like to be treated.
If I like a song, I seek out the producer and tell them that they did a fantastic job, and instead of buying their songs, I talk to local booking agencies to see if I can get that artist a slot here in Detroit.

Re: Discussion about illegal music downloads
i once gave a TV away to a mate, i worked hard to save the money to pay for it. but i gave it away for free,
so i think i have every right to break into your house and steal your TV
and no it wouldnt, i dont give a fuck if it was an hour of white noise, if someone worked hard to make it, and is trying to make a living from his work, you have no right to steal it.

Re: Discussion about illegal music downloads
and if you're not worried about cash they why dont you just spend the 99p or whatever the amount is any buy it?
Re: Discussion about illegal music downloads
I fully get your point here, but maybe "an hour of white noise... worked hard to make it" isn't the best choice of words?Sheff wrote:i once gave a TV away to a mate, i worked hard to save the money to pay for it. but i gave it away for free,

I built my own TV. Worked nice and hard on it. I then donated that TV to the poor people. Then I download 5 gigs of music illegally.

But seriously. This is more a question of personal morals than it is a question of showing support of the artist. I find other ways to support them other than buying songs. The rest is ethics
