"Skepta’s stereotypical hip-hop-style video babes are dressed up as city foxes rifling through bins and devouring discarded KFC."

best description of a wiley video I've ever heard. if only the journalist knew that one of Tempa T's first lyrics was 'I'll wait for you outside your house, or I might hide in your bin'.

I am not sure there is anything to be intellectualised from it. It's hard to tell without seeing the film but from the article it seems that it was the sexualisation of violence and suffering was the main protagonist of the film. I don't think it's supposed to hold up a mirror to ourselves or anything, I think it's a film about well.. the sexualisation of violence. That's what the BBFC object to I think.

Personally I'd like to make my own mind up and not the BBFC, so I'll be one of the tens of millions who will now download it as a result of the banning!

You wrote it. Read what you will into it :)

"an extreme piece of art."

I see. Your usual standard of comment. I don't know why anyone bothers, tbh.

If you are able to expand on why Ichi the Killer is either not "extreme" or a "piece of art", be my guest. I'd be surprised if you could though, because you're a fucking moron.
well a piece of art is only 'extreme' if you put it in a certain context. so it's meaningless to describe a piece of art as 'extreme' unless you state the locus of your perspective.

extraordinary is more accurate/useful.
This is some arch pedantry, well done. Though, I'd normally assume that the important perspective of an opinion is that of the opinion-holder. Compared to most other art I've ever seen (which is a fairly broad spectrum), Ichi the Killer is extremely violent. I think that's a fairly simple point, but fair enough... "extraordinary" may have been better, I felt it didn't quite capture what I was trying to say though.

Either way, Firky only disagreed so he could do his usual trick of having a slightly different opinion to anyone else that's thought about something, so it makes it look like he's thought about it before. I called him out to see if he could explain himself by anything other than "I'm trolling"... which is just about all he's good for round here.

As expected, he couldn't... he left someone with an active brain to have a go at playing devil's advocate for him... I wouldn't bother in future, if I were you!

I never made any comment about the film but the words you chose. That should have been enough for a man of your mighty intelligence to and insight of the arts to see. I didn't want to insult someone as learned as you by spelling it out in black and white; lord know how you hate "arch pedaantry". :)

I wasn't going to reply but it seemed like you genuinely didn't understand why a phrase like 'an extreme piece of art' is problematic.

I will take my arch pedantry elsewhere, maybe Semanticists Anonymous

although we're not really anonymous because we say our names at the start of every meeting.

in Se7en a guy rapes a woman with Razor from Robot Wars...

jus sayin
You don't see the shit in Se7en though.

It's like when the bbfc cut the nipple slashing from New York Ripper. You still know it happens but the bbfc decided you can't be allowed to see the blade actually cut across the boob as it sexualizes the violence aparantly.
yeh it wasn't a serious point but i agree with you that the two are different entities and make for weak comparison

I was congratulating Badman Juice on the arch pedantry. Learn to spot a compliment. He managed to find something to say rather than just quoting someone else's words with a sarcastic smiley.

So, what was wrong with my words in your humble opinion, firky? The same things as Badman Juice wrote for you? Or did you have an original thought other than "I'll pass yet more of my utterly futile life trolling an Internet forum..... again"?

I'm gonna chip in here and say that, imo, the Manga (cartoon) of 'Ichi the killer' is more disturbing than the film. However, neither version disturbed me that much...

"poses a real, as opposed to a fanciful, risk that harm is likely to be caused to potential viewers".
Sick. I don't watch films that only pose a fanciful risk.
