oh god why did no one warn me there was going to be Brokencyde/BotDF in this thread.... i'm shaking like i have hyperglycemia now
Re: I think southpark is going to do it.
I guess I wouldn't be surprised if SP made reference to stereotypical dubstep, but there's much worse music being made than even the broest of brostep, and a lot of it is WAY more popular.
Let's get some crabcore up in this bitch:
(skip to 2:35 for epic out of place random trance breakdown. oh I mean "techno".)

Yeah I thought this thread was going to be about them finally ending the show. I think it's about time to be honest, maybe a couple of more seasons but I honestly can't see it going past that, as much as I have loved it over the years. I think their current contract ends in 2013?
This can be a good episode to bring back some good old characters though, like the goth kids I mentioned (obviously they're into Goth-Trad)... and what happened to Stan's grandpa... he would be good in this one. "DOORSTEP?? SPEAK UP!"

while i still watch every episode because there is a really good one every once and a while, I feel like the show hasn't been that good for the past 6 years or so. IMO the show has morphed into a feedback loop of typical young white men's personalities: apolitical, macho, and unknowingly conformist. Like Bill Hicks (although SP is 100X more popular), young guys tend to take their political satire as gospel. I took a media studies class in undergrad and we were supposed to do a paper on an alternative media source. One of my friends wanted to do it on south park (a few others wanted to do it on the Daily Show). He wrote his proposal and my professor rejected it. Obviously, he is a little dense, but I think a good reflection of how people see the show as a beacon of honesty in the sea of media bullshit we swim in everyday. It is honest, but like I said, only a feedback loop and not a source for anything insightful besides a look into young male conformity. Fans of the show love to say how South Park is great because they make fun of everyone, even themselves. But when they make fun of themselves for being too preachy, they never delve into what they're preaching about.davwuh wrote:looks crap but we'll have to wait and see, south park is going downhill.. althought last weeks episode was wicked, city sushi.. classical south park
Nothings perfect, but I never see any real critique of the show outside of its controversy or how funny it is or is not. I think its well deserving of further study considering how much it is revered by its demographic. A mountain of critique has been directed at the likes of John Stewart and Bill O'Reilly by both the alternative and MSM. South Park is huge among the apolitical crowd and I would argue holds as much weight in its projected beliefs as its political commentator counterparts to their respected audiences. all that said its still one of my favorite shows of all time.

^ Interesting post there. I know exactly what you're talking about. It also gave birth to this so-called "South Park Conservatives" political "group" people identify with these days. A friend of mine is taking some sociology course and he said a couple of people have cited this show for their beliefs or used it as some kind of groundwork for their papers.

I don't think it promotes apolitical or macho identities over anything else. give some examples?ruckus49 wrote:while i still watch every episode because there is a really good one every once and a while, I feel like the show hasn't been that good for the past 6 years or so. the irreverence with which young ppl tend to treat politics is definitely there but they do more than that tbh, I wouldn't say anyone in the programme is apolitical, unless you massively simplify and generalise their perspectives.
also it doesn't try to push the liberal view that kids are kids everywhere and we're all the same under the skin.

Ah yeah, you mean this. Thought it was hilarious when it came out like..four years ago or something.hasezwei wrote:say_whut wrote:![]()
Anyone else find it funny how Blood on the dancefloor and other acts similar to it (what genre is that even?) always "sing" about haters?
It's like they accept they are shit and WILL be hated but then use that as a basis for their entire career?![]()
basically you had these guys doing a weird-ass mix of soulja boy and [insert generic nu-screamo cigarette band here]
it was just a gimmick but a pretty funny one tbh and i remember me and my friends actually liking that song for a while.
and suddenly you had a giant shitstorm of teenagers thinking HEY THIS SHUD B EZ I DUN EVEN NEED A BAND LOL trying desparately to get a piece of the cake. its kinda like when emo kids forcibly invaded the chiptune scene.
as to the 'haters'-thing, it's to be expected as it's music made by teenagers for teenagers. the lyrics obviously reflect the current attitude of today's (american) youth, and that attitude means that even 11 year old girls consider themselves important enough to have haters nowadays.
To think it would spawn an entire genre..

Re: I think southpark is going to do it.
i think south park would be good maybe as something they stuck online as and when they make an episode, when they feel like theyve got the right topical content to do one.
but yeah recent seasons have been a bit weak, it seems like they too have fallen into a manatee thing where they cross one pop culture reference with another (ipad... human centipede), they still bash out good episodes but it just seems like alot of them are rushed out halfarsedly

Have you considered Internet Marketing? You can make enough to buy a $5000 super computer just by adding random tags on Soundcloud. Or something, I wasn't really paying attention tbh.

no paticular music.oprs wrote:so what was it about?
the fart noises were just in there so they could say "it literally sounds like shit" . they also put farts over "every breath I take".
there is a "killer" bassline tho.

Yeah there's a garage sounding tune on Stan's ipod haha, some warp bass and stereotype drum loops.pompende wrote:no paticular music.oprs wrote:so what was it about?

Anyway, I got the impression the show is ending? Pretty dramatic episode, maybe the most dramatic one ever... of course still totally ridiculous though. I liked it. Silent end credits too... hmm, that's a first.

Re: I think southpark is going to do it.
definitely looks like they're bringing it to an end. not even a little bit subtly either. that speech between randy and sharon said it all, they're bored by the looks of it.
didnt really rate the episode either.

I get that impression too. From the first episode actually, after Kyle got that treatment in Human CentiPad - his portrayal in Crack Baby Athletic Assoiation wasn't great either, now this one too. He's a caricature of Matt Stone so there's gotta be something behind that.

Re: I think southpark is going to do it.
they had a good innings though, 15 series is pretty good.
Re: I think southpark is going to do it.
Yeah I think the dialogue towards the end between Randy and Sharon was probably Trey & Matt, after 15+ years working with 1 person on the same project (even before the series) I'd want a break too.
