CD Decks - What are you using?

Post by simian » Wed May 09, 2007 12:13 pm

Sup,
So, I've currently got a pair of TT500's and a DXM09. Very happy with the whole thing, but sadly one of the TT500s has a bit of a hum and squeals like a piggy when you press the reverse button, but hopefully i'll get that repaired some time. The torque on the TT500s is awesome but i'd eventually like to replace them with a pair of SLs because i don't think they're holding pitch quite as tight as i'd like.

Aaaaaanyway, while getting a pair of SLs is very tempting, i think i'm going to go for a CD deck of some kind (prolly just the one to start with due to money issues :| ). The Denon S5000 looks pretty fucking cool, with the alpha track and all, but they seem to be discontinued. The Numark CDX has the appeal of the whole vinyl platter thing, but i'm kinda keen on staying away from numark for any more gear - the build quality seems okish but i'd hope others do better.

So, what is everyone else using to play their forum dubz?
Also, what other gear is everyone using for playing?

thanks,
simian

PS: anyone know why the Denon S3500 is more expensive that the S5000?

I use Pioneer CDJ800's because I don't need the beels and whistles of the 1000's. They still feel the same to me in terms of the controls.

I will be making the transition to Serato soon though, because I love the feel of vinyl. (or an emulation of vinyl anyway :) )

How do you find the build quality on the pioneers? A friend told me they were a bit lacking, but he doesn't always know what he's talking about.
Serato seems tempting, but I just like hardware too much :).

Never had an issue with em. It's an industry standard out here, for good reason :)

Serato all the way. The software is super stable and for intents and purposes its the same as vinyl. And in all actuality, if you have a laptop, Serato and two Techs is roughly the same as CDJs and more flexible.

Oh, and the S5000 is less expensive cause its an older model and may be discontinued (been a minute since I worked at Guitar Center). The S3500 was made afterwards and has superior features and control, plus it plays MP3s. The 5000 has the ability to play two songs off the same CD at the same time through two channels on the mixer though...

Yeah, if youre gonna go CDJs the pios are the standard. I would get those for the same reason I got Techs - when you play out 99 times out of 100 its gonna be on Technics and Pioneer CDJs, so why not practice on them too? Serato is quickly becoming pretty standard here in LA too...
