defining dubstep ?

this questions been irkin me for a little while ; i know i sound like a troll or w.e but maybe someone could enlighten me? theres 2 types of dubstep beats for me.. the DUB beat ; and the 2step beat.. first.. howdo yu tell the difference between normal 2step and dubstep 2 step? second..if it has the dub beat why is the word STEP in there? im pretty sure dubstep was dubbed dubstep because it started off as dub remixes of 2step tracks ; BUT they still had the 2step beat at the time.. majority of tunes today have a dub beat.. no hint of 2step in them. i know i sound retarted but i just want to know whats going on here

the only rules were 140bpm with a sub bass foundation. that being said, the beat can be halftime, 2steppy, jungly, housey or even non existent.

any bpm with no bass = dubstep

I am new to this forum but have listened to dubstep for a few years....I must say this forum has really confused me about what 'real' dubstep is.

I've heard people say that producers like Benga, Coki, & Skream make real dubstep.

People here seem to consider 'brostep' to be anything with wobbly and robotic sounding synths.

So why is it that I hear wobbly and robotic sounding synths in Benga, Coki, & Skream songs?

Please someone clear of the confusion that this forum has caused me!!!

Dusbtep means something different to everyone. I don't dictate what it is to anyone, and I sure as he'll don't let them decide what it is to me. My advice to you, UFO, is to not worry about what others think and just do you. Remember that this is just the interwebs and we're all a bunch of nerds

Terms like brostep, dungeon and filthy only exist as dividers if you let them, don't get caught up in all that one dimensional thinking. This sound has many different facets and they were made to fit together. To compliment and contrast, to build and release tension, to fill with dread and then cleanse with joy... This is how I like to hear bass music
