there's nothing really revolutionary about your beat. infact it sounds fucked up in a lot of places. everyone on here seems to agree your beat is crap. havent you noticed?

a few years ago everyone thought minimal dark garage was crap too and going nowhere...

...so i keep daring anyone to post up a more original halfstep beat but no one has, have you noticed that ???

besides it's supposed to sound fucked up like it's barely keeping time !!!

...and most peeps are on about the production being a bit underdone as i have said, but the beat will grow on you and expect a few clones in the near future as the trad halfstep gets the rinse and recycle treatment

that's the thing with being in NZ. The isolation makes us more innovative and exotic in our style...

Heres a snippet of a track I started last night, basically just the beat and bassline at the moment, its only 25% done. I'm not saying it's the most original beat out there, but I thought I'd put up or shut up.

http://s10.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3NWP ... NMBKRYHQPY

and heres what I'm doing at the moment with a similar jazz type break as you used...(if you want to talk about programmming)

http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0GLQ ... 507JGDHJYL

This thread has gone waaaay off topic hasn't it?

most people arent posting anything because they dont feel your beat is worth competing with.

I am chill Borg... 8)

...but i get bored easily and like pushing boundaries of what is possible for myself and what we as HELL_SD can do. To hell with the consequences cos we can always reincarnate

so the next boundary i think is pushing the halfstep in new directions...

...ain't nothing personal, just peeps want to make it so

BTW RQ don't give up the dayjob

and THC just speak for yourself eh ???

I reckon it's because there simply isn't anything like it out there in a dub inspired halfstep that even comes close, at least not that i have heard but would love to hear it if there was...

...and for the record the dead truth beat was step programmed one hit at a time and not a recycled break

no ... it makes you less aware that you're style is as generic as anyones, and over inflates your sense of self worth, this is inherant in most of NZs cultural output ... big fish in little pond syndrome.

...

Keepin it Generic
^^^
this is my take on grime btw, not 'alfstep or newwavepolynesian jazzcore ... I'm not claiming to be doing anything new, just my take on it.

oh please doomy...

...shall i startup about your cutlure of cracker ass racists and a criminal past as a nation with no taste in anything whose leading lights are all ex pat kiwis ???

I don't think you understand that i am a polynesian first and foremost, the ultimate product of human evolution...

...hybridised, naturally selected, tried and tested beyond endurance and better equipped to survive than most with a traditional culture of values and spirituality that is beyond reproach

not some cultural colonist or tourist looking to assimilate a native perspective into some hokey nu age philosophy while trying to subjugate the indigenous populace...

..if i am generic it's because i belong here

hah...RQ cos we did that about 4 years ago and i'd forgotten it was even out there. I don't suppose you heard the "slippin RMX" we did about the same time which could quite possibly be the first vocal dubstep tune ???

... did I say Australia was any better ? we just have an inherant self loathing that (usually) keeps our egos in chk, prob. one of the better aspects of our criminal past ... you need to keep in mind that (white) Australia is very much a multi-tier'd society in the same way that NZ is, with completlly differant cultures sitting side by side ... even if their skin is the same.

... and if your deluded enough to think ex-pat NZers are amoungst our leading lights  shame on you ... switch the tv off mate. We only pimp the ones wot might be good for a couple of bob.

i'll post up "slippin" for ya soon...

our first halfsteppa circa 2002...

...a remix of a tune by a good mate of mine, the orginal beat which can be heard at the end is 140bpm and a classic example of how half steptime is achieved. Featuring the luscious vocals of Michaela Carnavale

get over it thc...it's only the truth !!!

look up who we are, our origins, traditions and achievements and we will continue to amaze you, even better come to NZ and i'll show you :D
