Whilst out on an 'evening' with some mates today. I was mindfucked.
No, not about the same old "are we really here.. do we exist" nonsense. But it was suggested to me that all the celebrities and morons on TV who piss you off are created characters, part of some sort of conspiracy, to slowly brainwash humans?

Note, I'm under the effect of said 'evening' and am a general conspiracy-dick, so maybe this'll seem stupid tomorrow morning.

not consciously created characters as part of a conspiracy, but every one in the public realm is a character in the way that they have an agenda that they are trying to portray, a super-objective that is not necessarily known to them, and will and are playing out a narrative

although they are human, you will only know them as the portrayal as a human that they present to the public and the actions they carry out in public (or that are revealed in public, see ryan giggs)

Yeah this is more what I was thinking. Maybe conspiracy is a bit extreme. But the idea of use of media to create these false realities characters and standards in the human mind. Kinda made me think of inception I guess. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who reckons that over an evening, inception becomes more then a film hahaha

Well what I mean is that it's the idea that the Paris Hiltons and celebrities along the same lines, are infact creations, maybe not actors in a litteral sence, to make such moronic behaviour seem like the norm for the coming generation. As a member of which, I see first hand how shit the world will become in 40%. Like really, the thought that kids of this era are going to some day be 'world leaders' scares me a little bit.

like what? if you are suggesting that a few people have (actively) decided to lull everyone into a false sense of security and trick them into thinking certain things by making a giant play act itself out around them, thats ridiculous

however, if you are suggesting that the exaggerated/fictional characteristics of celebrities create a huge market and rake in large amounts of profit across many corporate boards, then yes, that is true, and its not a secret, its how globalisation of western capitalism seems to have taken shape.

it's hard to pin down causation/correlation.

ask yourself: is the general population stupid because TV made them stupid, or do the makers of TV/movies see them as stupid and market their programs accordingly?

after doing sound for TV and working with producers/directors, i can tell you that they work hard on dumbing it down for the average joe to swallow. it's not that the celebrities are crafted, but the people who design the shows definitely know how to design/arrange things. it's a niche market but also happens to be the biggest.

i guarantee you in the 1920s or even in ancient greece, the vast majority of people were thick, and the smart/cunning outliers are the ones who rise to power/fame/wealth.

I'd say TV is definitely the culprit, and overall it's this growing trend of everything being spoon fed into your face and distracting you with bright lights, shiny objects, polished voices, etc. People are being given less space to think and feel for themselves and everybody values some other person's opinion, lifestyle, and everything so much above their own. It fuels apathy and consumerism.
