I'm more considering the apogee now because my hardware to software ratio right now is heavier on the soft side.
I know it's sexy but would something like an M-box sound as good? I don't know how the DACs inside those two compare...

DUET 2 HANDS DOWN
after getting it personally I wish it was my first purchase, I would produce on the Duet, Monitors (sound proofed-ish room) and stock plugins if I knew.
P.S. the people who work at Apogee are so INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY! purchase it directly from them
