Computer Music : Mixing Guide
I picked up this beaut after much picking up and putting back down in WHsmiths the other day. It has been well worth the 9.99 I paid for it!!
I am not a true beginner when it comes to mixing down, I feel I know how to get a good mix but the great mixes seem to be pot-luck so I decided for once in my life, to invest in some knowledge to make my music better.
It covers literally everything you'll need to improve your mix down - each stage of divided into 5-6 page spreads. EQing, monitor placement, compression & Limiting, signal paths, explains digital degrading of a signal REALLY good as well as using reverb, delay and that - fx chains such and such..
Everything explained has 3 choices of what software to use too.. highend, middle mark and cheapest for great quality.
I think if you have a spare couple of quid and need some new reading material (even if its for the toilet) its well worth the buy.. Ive been away for the last week and been reading it while away from my DAW but I feel my knowledge is already 20 times better without even trying anything out .. As much as I don't rate Computer Music to better my music making - this one is a good buy!
Lets just hope the samples are decent hah!!!
: I also picked up the "effects special" as I feel I am a bit bummed when it comes to using FX's and thats a brilliant read too!!
Anyways, just thought i'd bring this guide to your attention!!

I'm surprised this pops up so late after publishing.
Really enjoy the mixing guide. Worth every penny.
The effects special is a bit disappointing imo. Perhaps because I already read the excellent Sound FX by Alexander Case but overall it felt very basic.

Re: Computer Music : Mixing Guide
also got this, only really been doing music for about a year now, and this really helped with getting a good mix,
i hate when one thing doesnt sound right, and it messes everything else up!

Re: Computer Music : Mixing Guide
i got the one last year which was good, didnt see this one come out.
Got the Music Tech Mixing special but it was a pretty big waste of money only about 4 pages i found useful.
Anyone compared this one to the other CM MIXING special about a year or two ago? similer cover i think too.

Literally got this yesterday and was actually thinking of posting up a little reminder to everyone myself. So I'll just reiterate, this book is the real deal and it's a fucking steal for £10 considering the wealth of samples, tutorials and advice you get from it!!

Re: Computer Music : Mixing Guide
This is a nice surprise - a CM thats actually useful! I'll check it out.
Re: Computer Music : Mixing Guide
Looks nice, but not worth it for me as I have the 'fix your mix' special. They probably reused the content and added some more ofcourse.
Re: Computer Music : Mixing Guide
Really ive been a subscriber (when i can afford it) for years now and have always found it interesting i still pick up old copies from my pile and flip thru them. Compared to the other titles like SoundonSound, music tech or there sister mag Futuremusic(also subscribed) its the best for the music we make.VirtualMark wrote:This is a nice surprise - a CM thats actually useful! My english teacher gave me a weird look when I mentioned that as the musical instrument I played. Like the wtf stare. I had to give her the 'wiki wiki' dj motion to confirm what i meant.

Mines came in the post today. Best package i've seen in a long time lol. Sample cd is included from time and space..? i'll read it check it out.
Re: Computer Music : Mixing Guide
I bought a few music mags lately...so maybe I'm confusing DVDs, but swear mine it's CM Keys collection. Time & Space was the last issue I think?
