Re: producing stoned
going to sound design right now and I am pretty faded. took hits that went straight to the dome. i would say I am a lot more creative and approach things at a different perspective.
Re: producing stoned
Sound design I can appreciate being stoned might help, but again you run the risk of spending 4hrs blazing and bouncing, only to listen back in the cold light of morning and realise it's all garbage.

Re: producing stoned
yeahh thats what happens to me. i find being blazed useful for getting in the groove to write a bassline or melody improv style. or to get perspective on your song. i love how once your high and you listen to your song you can lose that closeness you have to it for one second and hear it more as if someone else produced it. thats my favorite part.wub wrote:Sound design I can appreciate being stoned might help, but again you run the risk of spending 4hrs blazing and bouncing, only to listen back in the cold light of morning and realise it's all garbage.

Re: producing stoned
This all seems to be a case of the 'to each his/her own' sorta thing. As many have stated, being stoned whilst producing has several effects. I'll just say that I personally, enjoy smoking before/during/after my music sessions. I can do without it so it doesn't bother me....so I'll go on the record and just say I "prefer" it. Life is always more enjoyable while stoned.

Re: producing stoned
Hella iced tea and smokes is how I roll high, maybe a little ice-cream too. I get hyperfocused when I'm stoned so things flow pretty quickly and I don't tend to get bogged down in fiddling (unlike when I'm sober). I haven't really had the problem thus far of making something I think is fire when I'm high, then listening to it the next day and wanting to punch myself in the dick for it; I'm generally pretty satisfied with it, even if I have to adjust some levels a little. It just puts a different perspective on things. I'm more technical when I'm sober, so mixdowns are pretty well only done then, but the actual composition of tracks is a breeze. *Then* I wrap up when I'm satisfied (or realize the track's now 10 minutes long) and watch Adventure Time.
Overall, I'd rather produce stoned.

Sounds exactly like me, I think that laziness I get when I'm high stops me from pending 3 years fiddling with the one synth and helps me actually finish laying down the notes. Then I can mix and engineer the sounds when I've got over the munchies.thanatomaton wrote:Hella iced tea and smokes is how I roll high, maybe a little ice-cream too. Re: producing stoned
My biggest problem when I'm high? Fucking super-loud drums. I love me some drums and percussion sober, so when I'm high and I start getting a little hypnotized by the rhythm tracks, I end up cranking 'em. Or making them ridiculously complex... sometimes I gotta scale it back a bit bcz I've got a different percussive hit every 32nd note. Kinda verges on overkill territory.
Oh, and like I said, length. I don't tend to make dainty little 2m30s tracks anyway, but when I'm high, the temptation to just keep on going with it ends up giving my stuff epic lengths, like I'm composing symphonies or something. Sometimes I like the way the track unfolds and changes itself up, but most of the time I've gotta axe a few minutes out later.

This is totally me when I'm producing stoned. Nothing like a little Adventure Time for a break in between sessions.thanatomaton wrote:....when I'm satisfied (or realize the track's now 10 minutes long) and watch Adventure Time.

Re: producing stoned
Lol not to make it an Adventure Time thread, but totes. Probably the only appointment-viewing show on TV for me... more so when I'm taking a munchie break. Plus, I do a lot of my production in a bathtub (lol seriously- almost all my equipment, including a couple of hardware synths and sequencer, is set up in there), so I just slap on the external and watch a couple whenever I need a break.thedefinition wrote: This is totally me when I'm producing stoned. ^ me too i put my equipment on the edge of the roof and sit half on half off the edge... knowing that any moment i coudl fall and lose it all keeps me focused and creative.

Kick it, don't force it. Usually, I end up watching a film or How I met your mother or some shit.
Sometimes I get stuff down. But I prefer not to. I don't really do it at all anymore, special occasions perhaps. The way I see it, weed isn't the kind of thing to be done alone, more of a social thing imo

Re: producing stoned
Maybe... I get kind of annoyed when too many people are around and I'm high, though, unless it's not my house. Plus, I feel more like making music when I am, so it's probably 50-50 social vs solo.
Re: producing stoned
yea i only do it occasionally but when I do do it I am with a friend or a group of people. never alone I use to but not anymore. don't really like smoking and it sets ladies off or at least good looking women off when they know you smoke. at least around here it doeszerbaman wrote:Kick it, don't force it. im with this guy.... how do u start without lighting up???monkfish wrote:Can't see much advantage from being sober
its not a good thing to say but every song ive written on piano guitar or computer wouldn't be possible without some reefer madness beforehand
for you guys who don't produce or listen stoned i recommend it, you'll hear all the little details of your mix, and hear what needs to be filled in.
Who listens to dubstep and doesn't do drugs thats a questions i'd never thought i'd ask geez
now i gotta smoke
Re: producing stoned
I just don't do it because when I'm high, making music is the last thing on my mind. I'm always listening to tunes while baking up, just feel the need to separate I guess. Though in the period a few months back when I was making less tunes and smoking more, my mixdowns did improve. Not saying it's a direct cause, but there must be some correlationdameonxz wrote:im with this guy.... how do u start without lighting up???monkfish wrote:Can't see much advantage from being sober
