skrillex releases before signing to mau5trap:

:5:

so the answer is NO, his production before he was signed to mau5trap was in no way near the level it is now. go figure.
that being said, i honestly enjoy his older stuff a lot (as opposed to his newer stuff), and it's obvious the ideas were there before, all the vocal chopping, fiddly melodies and boomy basslines. but obviously he had help with the actual engineering/production. kinda like goldie (i will burn in hell for that comparsion)

especially the last tune (favorite one) is so horribly mixed down and the wobble is so cheap, but it's a fucking awesome tune anyway. maybe there's a lesson to be learnt there: make music that's great and fuck sound quality, let the label worry about providing you with professionals to polish your sound.

He did get help from Noisia, you can hear the exact same lead synth in his tunes as one used in an older Noisia tune :)

I've been following skrillex from the beginning he once sent a little spam message around on Youtube when he had about 2,000 subscribers and I thought here we go and saw he was fairly good but didn't think much of it then a few months later someone posted scary monsters and I thought jesus this guy is huge (no pun intended to his small size) but yeah he has mad talent and I can't understand why people hate on him... I've never spoke to him but everyone says he's a really nice guy and Im sure he is :)

Yea, it's obvious that after getting signed he definately took off more dramatically. Could be because of help? But i'm pretty sure Skrillex knows how to mixdown and master his own tracks very well. He even worked on some sound stuff with NOISIA I believe? He has to have no problem mastering his tracks on his own. He's practiaclly a sound engineer in my opinion. But on the idea of Labels, i'm sure this did help Skrillex a lot. Now with his sounds, i'm not so sure. He may of learned a thing or two, but the sole foundation of his signature style is all him. Even in some of his earlier works you can kind of here that bass starting to come through. In his earlier track Turmoil I believe you can definately start to here this.

Also in an interview not too long ago I saw of him, i'm pretty sure he said he's actually about to start his own Label as well. It'll be interesting to see who he has on that lineup. More house or Dubstep? Who knows. But one things for sure, if Labels actually do affect the artist that much, we'll sure be seing more Skrillexes now wont we? :P

Oh yes I forgot to mention that!
For I think 2-1 month he tweeted that he was heading down to meet with noisia and stay with them for a while..
If you think I'm joking, go to his twitter and dig several months back(before scary monsters and nice sprites was released)

Yeah neither do I!
He's been making music for years, just recently got into production though..
I know he's had help along the lines, but haven't we all?
Why else would we be on DSF if we were pro's? :W:

Nicest guy you'll ever meet! When I say that I am not exaggerating..
I met him before a set once and wished him a good show and I'll be in the front..
After the show he came back to his booth to sign shit etc..and before he got back there he saw me and gave me this big ass hug(I have a picture to prove it)
Lol total fanboy here, but he deserves all the success!

He's been producing since he was 14 or something.

The fact that he has been hanging out with Noisia is likely, they did a remix for him, so I would believe it.
And he runs an imprint label called Owsla, named after an organization in the book Watership Down. :W:

I appreciate the sentiment, but I am not in the same league as any of the other producers you've just mentioned.

Except Filth :6:

  that is true, they only care if they can dance to it i suppose. i once went to my friends friends house and he was playing some music that had wayy to much treble and also wasn't mastered so well or mixed well and he didn't even notice. it bugged me so much though

Okay back up here... Does 'Filth' mean 'Filthzilla'? And has someone been referring to me as a pro? [cause I'm not. ;)]

Also, Wub... where can I hear your tunes?

Brilliant comment, it's now my signature.

I think it's important to care about your craft, do as best as you can and good sounds will always make you popular, but the sentiment is true - it's usually only other tech heads that really care about the detail.

I also don't understand the skrillex hate - the guy produces party music that is great to skank out to, what's wrong with that?

2 things, first.. I think Filth is someone other than -zilla.
second, hate it or love it, skrillex tunes are not skank-out tunes. period. Zero percent hating on Skrill, but its NOT skankout ... yes, party, no skank

someone post a proper skank out dub, for fair comparison?

lol @ girls don't care about mixdown, so true, and a double edged sword at that
