Skrillex-ey Dubstep Breakdown

Post by Limenode » Thu Jun 23, 2011 4:19 pm

Just need some thoughts / mixing advice - right now it's just sort of a shitshow of sounds as I am just getting into dub!
I realize that it's less traditional dubstep, but I'm more into learning how to create new / bizarre
sounds that resemble robots vomiting. I appreciate it, guys :)

* Dub break starts around 1:45 *

Great composition! Sounds a bit peak-ish though. What I mean is it might be overpowered. How are you mastering?

its sounds good just too much copying skrillex.. just sounds heartless. get creative.. sounds like you have skills. use them to make YOUR own music.

Finally! Somebody else is doing this style on this forum!

All I have to say pertains to the drop. You're using the "yoi yoi" sound a lot. While good in moderation, that sound has become extremely cliche now. I'd say use it a little less than you are now, but however you're bitcrushing it sounds awesome. And then double the length of the drop!

I realize I'm basically telling you to rework the hardest part of the piece. Sorry! It's really REALLY good the way it is, I'm just hearing ways to make it better. Awesome job though.
Soundcloud Sequencer drenched, hefty 80's synth leads, and two drops in the same tune! What a bargain!
Soundcloud Proggy melody, up-tempo Drumstepish style, over the top drums, and some unintentional bars of 2/4 thrown in for good measure.

Thanks, man- it'll be a full composition soon. I am peaking the master a bit- I'm only running EQ, and Izotope Ozone on the master, as I'm still
learning how to do all that fun stuff.

No worries! I took no offense... I'm just learning dub, so instinctively I tried to copy skrillex a bit so as to learn the sounds as much as I can, then hopefully use them a little bit more
sparingly- I do want to make my own sound.
