eh?

not at all.

this isn't grime. if u ask cash what he thinks about grime then u will understand.

actually listen to a sublow track. u will see how much more intricate the arrangments and prouduction quality is even down the the mastering and engineering.

u couldn't make a sublow tune on a playstation are u mad.

I completely forgot about the term 8bar. Playstation music? It may very well have been made on a console but pulse X ( the whole whopping 8 bars) is a certified classic in my opinion. It was a pivotal track in garage which at the time was begining to splintering in all sorts of directions with everyone trying to make their own imprint. (Sub-Low and Eski come to mind).
try not to distinguish between the sub genres and refer to it all as underground music , an Umbrella term to cover all of the sub genres and offshoots. I tend to mix them all together and don't get too hung up on the specifics of what sub category its under. I like the contrast of opposing styles working together and 4x4 tends to be the "glue" to keep it all together

I've heard some amazing stuff coming from people whose learned how to properly wrangle the sounds out of a commodore 64, an Amiga, an Atari ST, and even a few who do it from a console. That 8/16bit "game" sound is NOW the heart of dirty south hip hop production. The TR808 sound is on the radio every day now.

A console machine as an instrument is an awesome concept, again proving that "music" however we define it, in its essence can be simplisic or complex and still impactful. The instrument is only as good as the player. The inexperienced Drummer on a full kit complete vs. the Experienced and more creative kid on the corner with the paint buckets? Music is sound, whether you are banging out a beat on a table, Beatboxing, playing out grooves from the latest "must have" plug in, or manually looping the break of a record using turntables DJ Kool Herc Style. Some things are better left undefined. :)

I loved the playstation era of grime. it all got too serious and crappy and samey after that. i liked 8 bar a LOT. from bein around uptown at the time, sublow was just the new name they came up with for grime. people were always battling to be the one to come up with the finite name cos it hadn't been set in stone yet.

3 pages on "what is sublow?"...

i love this forum...

"bang bang" is the catchiest sublow track... "war" is the "eskimo" of sublow, but "bang bang" is the joint... wicked low end...

Cash Beat (Hoods Up dub) is the best one!

And Dread Ds 'gram' and 'guitar'.
