Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I thought about that.. it seems like it would be more convient to just double click, edit, and be good
Instead of zooming in(which I think there is a tip on the first page about this), loading in whatever plug-ins, find the parameters to automate, draw them in and rendering item as new take.
Obviously for extensive sampling this would work great, but for just quick envelopes it seems there could be a faster way. Maybe I'm wrong tho!!
How do you guys have yours set up?
Care to share your layouts/add-ons?
Keyboard shortcuts that have really helped? Toolbar?

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Volume fades on samples can be dragged in from the edge of the media item on the sequencer track. These envelopes remain the same when moving the sample around.
As mentioned check the external editors tab in the preferences and set your external editor to whatever you like. That way, when you double click on an item it will automatically load into your editr. When you've saved the changes in your editor, I'm sure it automatically loads back into Reapers sequencer at the point where the original sample is inserted.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Thanks!
I think the biggest things is that I want to be able to render envelopes/fades as new take, so basically destructive editing.. but obviously the original would still be there.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Does Reaper have an option similar to FL's "Link controller to last tweaked parameter" ?

Click on the 'Param' button at the top of the FX window and select the assign option. Can't remember what it is called, but Reaper certainly has this feature because I've used it previously.

Not getting answers fast enough over on Cockos' forum. Maybe someone here can gratify me.

Saw this on createdigitalmusic.com and wanted to have a quick go at it, but can't get it to "drive" a VSTi drum machine. Pretty sure I had the MIDI channel config set up correctly, and since this isn't a hardware device it shouldn't have to do with the MIDI device setup in Preferences...
Eternal adulation awaits them that can figure this out for dumb ol' me.
Thanks!

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
okay so i got the reaper one month thing
but im used to only using reason (ive never understood how to rewire)
i did a dsf google search on reason to reaper but didnt find anything useful. youtube has some 15 minute long videos of guys making 64 channels and not making any music. very, very confusing for me but i could just be tired..
so im wondering if any one knows any articles or tutorials or could point me to a thread about transitioning from just using Reason to rewire reason through Reaper?
only reason why i want to rewire is because im taking a stab at some vsts my friend got me and ive never used vsts before either. i still want to use reason because i fucking LOVE redrum and the processing and automation i can do with it.
any suggestions? dont kill me if this is a dumb request >___>;;;

It`s very light so it loads up almost instantly.
Just double click the wav.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Thanks for the tutorials link, I'll have to check it out.
I'm currently playing with ableton and FL, but reaper's the only full version I can afford right now.
For guys that are only using reaper have you found that you can do anything you want on it relative to the other daws?
Reaper doesn't come with any instruments right? What VST's did you pick up (preferably for free?) to get off the ground and started?
Is it difficult to get a midi controller set up and assign pads in reaper?
Thanks a ton!

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Hello ridethecliche
Reaper pars with Logic / Cubase / Sonar etc etc in terms of features, and is no easier or harder than any other program to work with. All modern music apps can achieve very similar results, so the real choice to be made relates to which program you like the feel of using.
Reaper does come with some simple synths and lots of excellent effects. The built in synths are nothing to write home about, but the effects are well worth using even if you don't end up using Reaper as your DAW app.
Free synths worth checking out include Jeremy Evers Atlantis, Fuzzpils Oatmeal and Tal-Noisemaker, each of which will cover all your synthesis needs.
I've not had any problems setting up MIDI devices, just plug 'em in, select them in the options window and assign them to control whatever channel you want to control. Fairly standard really.
If you're stuck for choosing synth and effects plugins, a great place to start is with the freeware pack available from http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I got my FL and Ableton 'unofficially' to see what they look like.
I'd rather learn on something that I can afford to support, making reaper look more appealing. Besides, it's always nice to support the little guy that understands the difference between a home user and a full time producer...
I'll be checking out the reaper video's as well. I just need to pick a program and go with it instead of tinkering around in a few of them, but I guess I have to do the latter to see what flows for me.
Thanks for the help.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
Sorry if this has been asked before, but;
When loading samples into a plugin while using Reaper, is it possible to hear them as you select them? Its a pain having to load them up before hearing what it sounds like. I like to sample surf :]
Cheers

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
^go to the view tab and click the media explorer, reaper has one of the best media viewers. Listen to them stretch to bpm, start on bar loop etc etc. If only it could search within folders in folder like reason, otherwise its dope.
