how long does it take you to make a tune?
how long does it take you to make a tune?
ugh, it used to take me a few hours. like an hour per minute of song is a decent formula.
back when i was making hiphop beats in like 2005-2010 it was like, even just cutting samples took an hour or two.
and then youd sit on the tune and wait, aqnd go back and make it better, and wait and, back in the hiphop days itd take like a week to finish just a hiphop that a rapper would have to jump on which limited you cuz ur beaqts could never fully shine that way.
then the switch to dubstep, i went through that whole beat a day phase a while ago. the best song was like 7 mins long but it took like 7-8 stretch at one time to make it.
sample chopping is such a drag now, esp off vinyl. vinyl does sound better tho and you can detune it slightly during recording for extra grime.
it feels like now ill write the wubs in like 10 mins by just knob turning while thinking this or that, come back later and write the drums. maybe ill master prolly just compress or something. uh, i like frotty EQUO cuz it has that point freq feature that lets you highligh specific frequences to up or down like a real sound board.
wow this post was much longer than expected.
anyways how long does it take for you to make a quality tune?

Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
depends, some of my best tunes were made in less than a day.

Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
It depends. A week usually to get the tune mostly finished and listenable to, then a month of slight changes.

Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
Thanks people i wasn't expecting that haha.. but yeah.. if i'm really into a tune im making it'l most likely get done quick.. but its not rushed cos you put tons of effort into it.. obviously polishing it and getting feedback from close heads who know their stuff is key. In this case bandicoot, benton & pistonsbeneath helped me.
Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
My first song i started back in February. Its still not done. i dont plan on finishing it. The song in my signature, which i guess you can call my first song now, took me 2 days and its SO much better. (its the one in my sig)
its lame that i worked on a song for half a year, and i made one that im actually proud of in 2 days -___-

Depends, I've done songs in 6 hours and I've done songs in 20 hours. For my best tunes the ideas come super quick and I can finish the composition in like, 4 hours or so but perfecting the sound design and mixing down stuff the best I can takes a while.

Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
Normally takes me about a month to finish a track, I get pretty ocd about things. Trying to speed up my work rate a bit.

Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
It can take me a few hours to get the main thing done - then another session to tweak it, add bits, work in to it a bit. Then I usually render it, do a rough master and lvie with it for a day or two to get used to it - hear it after a couple of nights sleep etc. Then if it's solid and I'm happy I consider it done, and move on. It's rare that I go back and edit any bits - unless I'm rendering parts or need a specific sound for another track.
Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
About an hour to make an awesome sounding 8-bar drum loop and a bass. I then save the project and usually forget about it until months later when I stumble across old works in progress. A little inspiriation hits me and I add a melody. Another few months go by and I rediscover it again, this time working with song structure, turning it into a complete song. Mixing down takes like 5 minutes. So, about six months to make a full song haha.

any chance of a 320 or is this out?
deffenantly would play this.
Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
anyway i have not produced much this year
but normally 2-3hours first version of the track then about 6 hours spread to 1 week to clean it up and stuff like that
i've tryed the 1month thing but get over the tracks fast and they just become unfinish projects.

Re: how long does it take you to make a tune?
it varies tremendously... I've had a few pretty dope tracks that came out pretty much all in one sitting, 4-6 hours. Then others I struggle with for days and days (sometimes weeks...) Average is probably 2 or 3 sessions of 4-6 hours each, spread over a couple of days. But then I always spend a ton of time obsessing over little tweaks to sound design/mixdown/mastering.
about 5 hours:

lost track on this one, but probably close to 100 hours:

Varies, i've had things which i've made in a few days which i've been happy with, and one tune i've had since october which i think i've pretty much finished now, it takes a lot longer if i've got other things like social life and school in the way
