Natural clap sounds?

Post by amphibian » Fri Jul 01, 2011 6:47 am

Looking to create a staggered clap/snare er... snare, for my current WIP. However, no samples I have a really any good for this kind of thing. I'm talking about the kind of snares you hear in a lot of eskmo tunes, as well as glitch hop in general. Anyone got any sample packs they could link me to, or know where I could find some?

Cheers!

Any chance you can post a YouTube video of a specific clap sound you're referring to?

i think he means something like the clap in this track (right?):

i'd say record yourself clapping, even with a shitty webcam type mic and a bit of processing and or layering you can get interesting results

Your doing it wrong, you should load every sidestick, clap, random african perc, ect. you have, then layer them and offset each one to create the texture you want... plus this way, you can easily make several patterns with different offsets, making each snare hit in a phrase unique...

I like to layer field recordings of junk and stuff with claps for that really dirty kinda clap. Not quantizing the different layers creates a really sloppy and natural sound, so move stuff around too, make sure they don't all hit at the same time.
Here's a clap I made like that:

It's pretty raw in terms of processing, but feel free to use it.

yea i do a clap layered with a snare or two. then i turn quantize off, and move the clap a little forward every other bar. only works well with certain claps though. got this technique from a house tutorial

The word you are looking for is pre-shifted claps :)

Just listening to Immortal Technique, JMT and Snowgoons makes you cool.
Hating Skrillex makes you awfully cool. No... one... must... make... music... the... mass... likes...
