Joe Calzaghe isnt just the best British boxer....he's one of the best in the world -- regardless of nation or weight class. And i agree...his demolition of Lacy was masterclass. That's the best performance i've seen since Wright's destruction of Felix Trinidad.cody wrote:Think this will be hatton's most demanding fight yet IMO.
Thought he fought the first half of his last fight very well, but seemed to lose energy as the rounds wore on.
To have a chance against castillo I think he going to have to hit the gym.
1. Hes going to need more strength/shot power, to make use of any openings in castillo's defence. couter punching very important/
2. Increase stamina if he is going to last the full fight.
His raw determination counts for a LOT tho, IMO.
P.S. Pound for pound I still think Joe Calzage is the best british boxer at the moment. His demolition of Jeff Lacy was a total boxing masterclass.
P.P.S. Cant see Harrison coming back to the top level. It will be a long hard road if he does manage it. Was susprised at his lacklustre performance as I thought he beat danny williams quite convincingly in his fight before last.
COME ON THE HITMAN!

i still think hatton is prime for a beating. saying that i dont know if castillo is the one to do it !! that will be a massive fight for sure though, cant wait.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Ray Austin
Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Juan Manuel Marquez

cotto vs urkal???
im disappointed in the lopsided matchmaking in this fight. cotto will make short work of urkal (who lost two consecutive fights to less-than-impressive vivian harris) while stalking him in the ring and methodically ripping hooks to the body and head. granted, this spectacle makes for an ideal showcase for the young boricua star in front of his home crowd, but will it make him a better fighter in preparation for his appointment with zab judah in june?
green vs miranda
the deciding factor in this fight is consistency. which fighter will be the most consistent in the ring? allan green gained a reputation as a puncher from his brutal first round ko of jaidon codrington in late '05. since then, hes demonstrated a couple of things.....1.he can box- his last 3 wins relied heavily on boxing skills he's honed since the amateurs. 2.he's vulnerable- while easily winning a fight last year vs. mccrary, green got lazy and was rocked by combination from mccrary, sending him to the canvas. tho allan came back to win the fight by a 6 round tko. if allan green is to win this fight, he needs to box, use his speed advantage, beat miranda to the punch, and remain consistent throughout the fight. if he languishes in the middle of the ring, or worse yet, on the ropes, miranda will take advantage with his effective, compact puncher/slugger style. they say styles make fights and miranda's style poses green his greatest challenge yet. both fighters have good momentum coming into this fight and i hope they bring an exciting contest to tomorrow's undercard. i feel that green has a slight edge over miranda in terms of skill and speed, however to pull the win, he'll have to be consistent.
ive gotta head out......
but what are your collective thoughts on israel vazquez vs. rafael marquez? darchinyan vs. burgos?

Rafa Marquez is amazingly talented.....some would say that he's better than his brother, JM Marquez. Should be an interesting fight....both are action fighters and both will slug when necessary.rickydef wrote:ive gotta head out......

Marquez wins.
I was very disappointed with the Miranda / Green fight. And...to a certain extent, disappointed in the Urkal/Cotto fight.
Cotto didnt show me anything to convince me that he's going to defeat Zab Judah. Urkal -- he appeared to be overmatched, but he kept fighting.
I'm very happy that Lennox Lewis squashed the rumor of his comeback. I love the line during the broadcast...."I'm not coming back. I'm happy being a family man....and i'm still king and you never see a skinny king (in reference to his recent weight gain)." Additionally, Lennox is a very good broadcaster. It seems that he always provides the correct advice for each fighter and he knows when to talk and when to lay low.
And -- unlike most that live in the U.S., I like Lennox Lewis as a boxer. Seriously. I still believe that an in-shape and motivated Lennox Lewis is unbeatable. Give this some thought boxing fans....he's 6'5", 250 with a jab like a telephone pole. And -- pound for pound - he might have possessed the best right hand in the history of the sport.
Next weekend....Barrera vs Marquez! Who's watching !?!?!??!?!?!

April 7....
Diego "Chico" Corrales vs Joshua Clottey.
Corrales is moving from lightweight to junior welterweight. And -- he's got a tough customer in front of him in the form of Clottey.
Clottey gave Antonio Margarito all he could handle..and if not for the injury, Clottey had an outside chance of winning the fight.
Should be interesting......

DeLaHoya v Mayweather
Since we have to talk boxing -- let's do it.
Next Saturday night -- Mayweather vs Oscar DeLaHoya. Personally, ODLH has no chance against Mayweather. Pretty Boy Floyd beats Oscar like a drum.
There are so many ways to break down this fight.....
Recent performances?
Mayweather....although ODLH looked brilliant against Ricardo Mayorga in his last fight....speaking of last fights:
Ring activity?
Mayweather. His last fight was 11/4/06 against Carlos Baldomir. Oscar's last fight - 5/6/2006 against the aforementioned Mayorga....yep...364 days.
Opponents?
Mayweather is the best fighter ODLH has faced in his career. Can the same be said for Mayweather? The answer is NO. Mayweather -- he's never lost a fight....infact, many of his recent fights haven't been close. You could make the argument that his last close fight was the second Jose Luis Castillo fight. 18 months ago, the two best lightweights in the world were Castillo and Diego Corrales....Mayweather beat both of them.
ODLH has lost 4 fights, but he's really only been beaten in two -- the Hopkins fight and the second Mosley fight. He was robbed in the Trinidad fight and the first Mosley fight -- in terms of pure boxing -- is one of the best you'll ever see. Speaking of Mosley......
The Mosley factor:
It's gonna benefit Mosley -- he stays sharp. Mosley has similar hand speed to Mayweather, but not the defensive ability or the right hand lead that Mayweather loves to throw. If you're Oscar, sparring against a fighter that's beaten you twice in the ring will help, but there's really no preparation for PBF.
The WINNER:
Mayweather. Oscar will be competitive -- he's too professional to get blown out in 2 rounds, but Mayweather is the best of the best. I'm not really sure who we as boxing fans can compare him to...but if i had to pick someone, Mayweather is most similar to a mid-to-late 90's Roy Jones Jr, but a little more defensive-minded. The other fighter to compare Mayweather to is Pernell Whitaker (although Whitaker was a southpaw and had far superior foot movement to Jones or Mayweather). Neither Mayweather nor Jones Jr jabbed a lot. The both threw the right hand lead frequently. Jones was the better athlete...which probably stands to reason why Mayweather has to be better defensively with his hands and arms. Jones could put his hands at his side and avoid punches. Jones started losing fights because his athleticism was waning and he was never the "boxer" that Mayweather was and still is. Floyd has a style that could see him compete for another 5 years -- and probably not lose.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT:
If Oscar wins: he retires. We all know he can't beat Mosley...so does Oscar. Felix Trinidad will stay retired. He's not gonna get in the ring with Hopkins again. Who else is there to fight?
If Oscar loses: he retires. Why? Who else is there to fight?
If Floyd wins (which is the likely scenario): He moves down to a more natural weight after this fight (147) and challenges Shane Mosley (who's a more talented fighter than ODLH) or he faces the man most people say he's been ducking in the welterweight division...Antonio Margarito. The other options are the two young guns in the division, Miguel Cotto or Paul Williams. The Cotto fight only happens if the Puerto Rican gets past Zab Judah next month. Mayweather isnt gonna fight Judah again if Judah beats Cotto. If Mayweather stays @ 154-ish, (or moves up to middleweight/160) the obvious fight is Cory Spinks. Spinks/Mayweather is dependent upon Spinks defeating Jermain Taylor next month -- and that's not likely to happen. Floyd is smart enough to stay away from Jermain Taylor. Taylor is a natural middleweight and could move up to light heavyweight (175). He has the frame for adding additional weight and Taylor usually walks around 180lbs wen he's not training. PREDICTION: Floyd beats Cotto...and wins against Margarito in a tough fight. Paul Williams and Cory Spinks are both southpaws, but Mayweather wins both of those fights too....although Spinks will give Mayweather all he can handle. We all know, weight is the great equalizer in boxing.
If Floyd loses: Mosley is the next opponent. At that point -- you've gotta figure Mosley has more than a fighting chance to win a match against Mayweather.

those 24/7 shows are really good !!
why does mayweather portrays himelf as a prick in public, when in reality he seems like an ok dude? i mean he is really over the top obnoxious alot of the time, then u see him with his doctor being a nice guy and whatnot.
a product of his enviroment and the way he was brought up i am guessing.
i am personally rooting for oscar, mainly because i really like freddie roach. and unlike joe i think oscar has a good chance of winning.mainly because i think this is gonna be oscars last fight, and he will die in there before he loses...
you didnt comment on the fact that floyd frequently has had major hand problems, breaking or really damaging his hands in numerous fights.
i am not 100% sure when these fights where but it is one of the things i always remember when i see floyd fight.
i am not going to pay to see the fight because neither one of them needs my money.in saying that i am eagerly awaiting the replay already.

okay...
this weekend, very stoked !!
taylor-spinks
miranda-pavlik
i think spinks gets killed in the main event, coming up in weight against one of the hardest most aggresive punchers around is a recipe for disaster.
the undercard is very interesting for me, miranda is too akward to predict imo...and i have only seen pavlik fight once.i think i will take pavlik though in a decision.
thoughts ??

I think this is a difficult fight for Taylor because of Spinks' southpaw stance. Taylor isnt technically sound and he's possesses poor fundamentals. You're not going to confuse him with JM Marquez or Mayweather. Taylor swings wide right hands and that will leave opportunities for Spinks to land the left hand lead. The question -- will those punches have enough steam to do any sort of damage? Spinks is noticeably smaller than Taylor.
Miranda v Pavlik. I agree with you about Miranda.....you don't know what you're going to get. Pavlik is a solid boxer/puncher type. This should be an interesting about.
In all reality, the fight people want to see at the middleweight/super middleweight class is Joe Calzaghe v Mikkel Kessler. One problem.....outside of me and Marsyas, no one else in the states would care. In Europe -- the pubs would be packed. You can't have this fight in England.....Outside of Germany, the obvious place to have this fight is Boardwalk Hall in AC, NJ or the MGM Grand in LV, NV. Fingers are crossed. This wouldnt draw huge PPV #'s like ODLH/PBF, but people will make the buy.
One other fight that needs to go off -- Pacquaio / Marquez II. You could charge $79.95 for that PPV and people would buy it. I know i would.

hehe, once again joe has me questioning my choice for winner.
that kessler v calzaghe fight would be insane.
gosh kessler is one of the most impressive fighters i have seen in awhile, but calzaghe is just as skilled...i am not sure of kesslers age, if he is signifigantly younger i would choose him.
i would be more inclined to buy that over the odlh v prettyboy fight.
i want to see andre berto fight a real contender soon, personally i would like to see him fight maybe collazo or evn zab judah.in reality judah would be ideal, because his ego will outweigh the fact that berto is extremely dangerous -- making it a possibility!!

I'm staying up to watch this one tonight! Looking forward to it. Has anyone heard anything more on a Calzaghe fight with Taylor or B Hop in October/Nov? Calzaghe is over watching Taylor tonight and says:
"I will be sat at ringside and will tell any of the media in attendance that care to listen how keen I am to face Taylor,"
Howay Joe lad, get 'em told
I hope that fight is on for later in the year. If it's on here in the UK there'll be loadsa folk goin' to it.

Agreed. But he needs one of those guys next.
And what about last nights fight by the way! Very poor I thought and Taylor was quite lucky he didn't come unstuck. It could have just as easily gone to Spinks. He looks complacent and showed no motivation for it.
It would be safe to say that had he gone in like that to Calzaghe or Pavlik, he would have lost.
But hey, bollocks that fight it was all about the Pavlik fight!!! Quality!!! Made me evening - sorry- early morning that did
Are any of you fellas on the Worldboxingarchive site? I'm a member there and you can get all the fights which have just been shown. It's a quality site for fight downloads. I'm gonna download that Pavlik fight now for my dad. I got De La Hoyas Career fights from there and loadsa other fights. Good site. Gotta keep your ratio from what you download though.

thanks for the link lonewolf i will check that out.
as far as last nights fights go...
pavlik v miranda was a brawl thats it.
i know that is exciting to watch, but it really doesnt amaze me.
miranda looked like shit, couldnt defend for nothing.
and pavlik was close to throwing himself out, but the fact that miranda couldnt defend any right hand that pavlik threw was insane.
if miranda was a "smarter" fighter it would have been a very different story.
the spinks v taylor fight was interesting.
i could see why it was a letdown to most fans of the sport.
but if u watched the last fight taylor fought against uma, where he looked ridiculous throwing haymakers and trying to knock him out, you would see that taylor didnt want too look like that again.
and what could he really have done against spinx? spinx was way faster and much more defensive minded...all he did was run around and occasionally threw a combination.
i am a firm believer that u have to TAKE the belt away from a champion, and spinx did not come close to taking the belt away from taylor.
i personally had taylor up 4 rounds i believe.
i think the bigger question here, is taylor gonna skip out out on pavlik and move upto possibly fight calzaghe? or is he going to hang around and cement his legacy at this weightclass?
