What's your secret production weapon?

Post by Pulse-Ion » Sun Jul 10, 2011 3:40 am

The one go to compressor, amazing reverb impulse, rediculous sample pack, the one thing that made you excited when you found it. If anyone else is like me, its like fucking Christmas when I find a new synth, or learn a new productive technique.

For me personally, High Rankin released a pack of presets for Massive and they're fucking amazing to start off with. Vengeance also released 2 dubstep packages for Massive that give you a great start on super good sounds.

So what about you guys?? Let's let some secrets out for some air!

plugin chains. splitting every reece in 4 separate buses of certain frequencies, throwing lots of phasers and distortions on one range, then cutting a big chunk out of its eq. throw bandpass on. automate. seems to work.

btw, I don't see the point in using downloaded patches, especially ones from commercial packs like Vengeance. You don't really learn anything from it (unless you pull it apart bit by bit) and you didn't make it either... takes the whole point away from producing. :(

I completely agree, yet every patch is kind of its own tutorial. Being new at making dubstep, it has been a nice 'flashlight' in the dark ass room of figuring out how to make comparable tracks to what i'm hearing from big producers. another reason i'm here with all of you, to try and make better music.

Wow filter.

I'm pretty sure I had it on every channel in the tune I just finished up.

Bitcrushers. I thought I was the new Datsik when I discovered them. +1?

reaktor. I only use my own patches in it, never even explored the built in ensembles. My synth is pretty much the only one used on my friends album thats released on Hymen. Lots of drum percussion and generative stuff. I've even built my own compressors and and reverbs in it.
the octatrack is my new best friend. so amazing

I like to record my own impulse responses, samples, vinyl pops and crackles, use noise from amps and pre-amps, and record stuff to tape.

I love the sound of lofi indie, garage rock, and old school sampled hip-hop stuff. Not a big fan of things sounding all digital and pristine.

my penis is the main one, but I don't know despite my poor knowledge of music theory and the fact I have NO experiance with any instrument I seem to play some sweet melodies out of nowhere and also my sidechaining & re-sampling skills help me I think its a mix of my penis and my hands which is often a good combination
