Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
hey guys, first time poster here. never put my music online, really curious of what the rest of the world thinks of my stuff... its more on the housey side of things but i'm also a huge fan of dubstep, just not great at making it so i tend more towards house. this is an unfinished track of mine, i really like where its headed but i don't know where to go from here. really appreciate any and all advice/criticism, thanks guys!

@sket1
Really liking it dude, I'm looking forward to hearing the finished version
Some strange sounds in there alright
@Crumpet I like the sounds in this, like the style you've got going on
'@DrTones Again another good tune, nice and chill good work!
Here's my WIP, it's different than the last one I posted, it's more than a buildup. Feedback well appreciated

Hmm... It's interesting, because the sub feels really OK to me...Randy_Panda wrote: @z6z ... really liked the beat when it came in,,, thought the pad was abit in the background of the mix, maybe a sterio splitter enhancer thing on it to bring it abit into the front. (just my opinion tho) ,, didnt really feel much low end, so perhaps could have a subby lower layer on your kick and let that ring out a bit longer (or the dub bass as mentioned in previous post) , really liked the melody and africany style beat.

Can u exdlain more detailed maybe, what's wrong with the sub bass? : /
//and could u guys give me example, what kind of bass is dub bass?

Thank you for your time!
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@z6z- beat is sick man lots of atmosphere aswel, percussion is nice, really feeling this. nice job
@Lysergical- drums could do with a fair bit of work, try layering them up and add some parallel compression.
@bert and ernie- all sounding crisp, not sure i like that sound that comes in at 36 seconds tho. 2.20ish onwards is really cool

@WIZEGUY: Dude.... That is a nice track. The waveform says it all lol. But yeah i really like this classic style you have goin. I think the hi hats in the very beginning could use some work, but you know. This sounds like something that would be played as video game music in a chill ass game.
@RANDYPANDA: I don't know what to say. I didn't really like it and the mix was muddy. You'll want to work on your mixing and maybe come back to it. I really liked the intro a lot but everything else not so much.
@LYSERGICAL: Was pretty average. No melody to hum or remember. The intro was just a basic drum loop with some reverb. The wobble was really muddy and stuff. Was obviously made in Massive.
Here's something that I just made:

@z6z - Good work there mate, the sample fits really well and i love the feel you've got going. Those drums are perfect for the style there and the crackle really gives it a nice dark feel, good work:)
@wizeguy - Nice vibes bro, I quite like the feel you've got going. It is quite empty but i'm thinking if you were to add anything it'd take away from the feel you've got so i'm not sure wether it'd be a good idea too:)
@ChadDub - It's pretty cool man, but it gets a little reptative. You're going to need something new to happen if you want to keep people interested but i liked your little sample there!
Okay, so I know this is probably the sort shit that gets slated here but I wanted to give it a shot for the experience and i've managed to learn a lot from it
no real mix yet, it's all pretty basic but yeah, some feedback would be good!:)

nftfhx, I actually just added a pad and a little sublead thingy, and I think it's pretty nice. Care to listen again? It's in my sig. I'll also review your track.
@NFTFHX: Very first second of it I thought of Died This Way by Skrillex. And then with that arp I thought of Flux Pavillion. The track is realllly goood! OMG THERE'S BLOOD EVERYWHERE! FUCKING SICK! Just needs more sub bass! The rest is awesome!

thanks dude! yeah, i did kind of rip that song off actually hah, lets just hope no one else clocks on;)
glad you liked the sample too, i recorded my mate for the jokes and it actually sounds alright!
I need to add the sub through out the drop, i still haven't got to that yet
i'll let you know when the full things done!:)
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Randy_Panda: Never heard anything quite like that. Like the pitch slides and short melodic breaks. (2:11 is awesome.) I see a few resonant peaks after that; they're a bit too piercing. 3:20 = LOVE. All the unison is great. However, I can hear a lot of unpleasant mud/distortion due to all the synths. Also, welcome to DSF! :3
@nftfhx: Those quieter sections are terribly nice. Swells and falls, a light melody, clean hats... Just nice. And the drop scared the crap out of me; it just came out of nowhere. (I'm still not sure if that was a good or bad thing.) Your 'main' synth doesn't really match with the short note arpeggios/bleeps; it alone sounds brutal and aggressive, but the sterility of those small incidentals doesn't offset nicely. The "oh my god blood" samples a bit too loud. I mean, samples like that are cool and all, but it feels a little too strong. The nice things are your sound programming, but compositionally, the track can use some structure, so it's not just a chain a cool noises, but a melodic chain of cool noises. In short: excellent work, but it needs some structure and melody. Again, I can't say enough good things about the quieter sections. You've done a ton of awesome work with this; I look forward to the finished product. Out of curiosity, why the name "Glass"?
@ChadDub: Smooth, mate. I think the kick should be lowered a tad to match the snares. Maybe add some reverb to the drums. I can easily see a 80's-ish vibe to the piece, especially with that synth bit, which is really nice.
@wiredcrumpet: Dark. Dark and repetitive, in a good way. I like the crackle/rain in the background; it adds to the atmosphere.
@wizeguy: Your hats are a little sharp; that's my only complaint. I like the delayed synths, the smooth sub, the breathing room... It all contributes to a relaxed atmosphere.
@z6z: I like the shuffled feel. Percussion is varied, too; that's always a plus. Really strong bass, too. I like the outro, as well. Even though your synths are rather sharp, the mood is... clear. Expectant. It fits the track name well. Overall, nice job.
As for me...

@KIKARUU: That just raped me. I like the little panning you did on the delay of the snare, and then when that drop hit it was fuckin epic like BRRRRROMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

i understand that it's pretty much the same thing over and over, i haven't got to the stage of trying to add variety yet
so is it the actual notes that you're suggesting to change up or just what's going on in general?
i want to get as many pointers as possible before i go back to finish it
and as for the name, i suck at things like that and i have a sample of some glass smashing in there and i saw the combinator when i named it so i went with it hah:)
your song, major props on that kick drum it's so nice and mellow yet thumpy i really like it, there's a real nice feel going on with the more electric lead sitting on a nice soft bed
and the pads at the second drop really compliment it all, it's almost a bit epic! good work, however i think you may have got out of key on one of the passing chords, 2:04 - 2:05, i may be wrong but it doesn't sound quite right to me
good work dude and thanks for the feedback:)

kikaruu: shit sounds dope man. I like the chill feel to it, and the transitions.
chaddub: it reminds me of old video games, idk why. That synth sounds cool
nftfhx: hory shet. that drop was phenomenal! I like the little vocal samples you have in there as well.
edit: for some reason it wont play in here, and will only work if you follow the actual link. (might be because i just uploaded it)

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Hey all, first serious effort in a long time. Seriously WIP but looking for some feedback.
@acidrat: I liked what you had going there but it needs to be sequenced and structured. Nice bass riff though. Also it definitely need more of a drop, and build up.
@ Chaddub: Liked what I heard. Serious video game inspired sounds.
So here is my venture. Its for vocals from Florence and the Machine. Still WIP, the song structure is a little blunt, anyway feedback is appreciated.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Acidrat: Nice beat, first off.
I'd say modulate/change up the shorter synth hits; they sound a little "default". I'd say throw some more distortion on that synth; make it really aggressive! Add another synth an octave down for grit, then perhaps slap a chorus on that/stereo spread for movement and spaciousness. Speaking of space, get a nice, swishy crash to complement the snare; kind of like a lot of jump-up/club dubstep (Emalkay's When I Think of You, Bare Noize's Harry Remix, Rusko's Jahova, etc.) Nice switch with the drums! It'd be cool to see that kind of thing with the synth, where the melody is, say, pitched up a half note for a few measures, or the synths swap out... That sort of thing. Maybe bring back the pads from the opening for half a bar, in the beginning of every eighth bar? For dynamic's sake. I just think this track could really be an all-out banger with that synth line. EDIT: Sorry for missing your first post!
@Geddupnoise: Florence + the Machine? Quaint.
Snare's a little strong, but kick and hats fit nicely. Also, I think that the snare fills, the four sixteenth notes, should just be two eighth notes; I keep thinking that the track is going to turn into house or electro or something similar. And um... the change into the... dubstep? It was executed well, but you're sitting on some very, very experimental music. Hard panning, bitcrushed vocals(?), 70 bpm... scary stuff, mate. Scary stuff. No offense meant; I guess this isn't what I'm used to. So, I really don't know what else to say. ^_^;
@kungpowmace: First, thanks for the feedback. Beginning is a little hard to follow... But then I think I get the groove of it. Love the changeup transition. Then I realized the time signature wasn't 4/4, and then... nooowww I get it. Nice! I like the synth programming; staccato is always, always welcome in any music.
@ChadDub: LOL AWESOME! Thanks!
@nftfhx: No problem; I like listening to new music in this thread. The notes are fine; it's more like so much going on without resting space, or lots of elements rapid fire so it just kind of gloms together and loses flow. I like how the song moves, really; it's genuinely next level stuff, especially the screech that opens every other bar. So, the general melody is fine, but due to the way the different synths interact, it gets a little lost unless I'm looking for it. And rhythmically... the triplets (especially the triplet hats) that happen every now and then are great in idea, but due to the amount of differences between instruments, again, they get a little lost. Things just need to be a little more related.
For example, I'm a bit unhappy with the first 'verse' of this first remix, but I am in love with the second/third verse, because the synths get stepped and rhythmical, and the dums and synths play off each other. Same opinion for the second remix; there's so much stuff, but it all kind of makes the remix sort of fall apart, instead of come together. I hope you can see what I mean.

So like I said, the programming is top-notch, but it'll really shine if you give each element a way to stand out. Like that screech? Brilliant that it kind of pops up unexpectedly. Aside, when I mentioned the sample volume... I don't know how to explain that. Maybe it's fine; I don't do a lot of vocal samples, so I'm talking a little blindly. (Although pitch shifting the clip down as it progresses, from 1:35 - 1:37) would sound pretty nifty, too.
One other thing; the reggae drops (on the up-beat) section in the very beginning could be added at the end of the last verse, but with hits of the more aggressive synths instead of the mellow hits. Would kind of tie the beginning and end together, although the way you wrote it already is just as nice. If not better. Yeah, maybe you shouldn't do that, after all, lol. It's your song; add only what makes it shine.
About 2:04 - 2:05, the choir/electro synth pitch shifts up, so for a brief moment it's out of key. I'll take that out, as a similar movement happens at 2:40-2:42, so it doesn't really need to happen at 2:04. And thanks for noticing the kick; I spend a lot of time on them. Good to know it pays off.
