i don't really care if it is or not, but i'm not inclined to listen to something that doesn't have a decent sub.

instead of venting, make a change.
know people that listen to that stuff and you hate it? Play some music that you enjoy.
i've gotten quite a few people into dmz, burial, etc etc.

But the thing is these rants against brostep (dare I utter that abomination of a word) and mid frequency are starting to become just as generic, redundant and re-hashed as the songs they bash. Seriously, the best we can do is just educate our friends about it. "Ohhh bro if you say you like dubstep you should check out Kode9, he's boss!" Sadly I often get the 'wtf are you on meth
But it makes sense, it's just more appealing to a bigger crowd. Music that gets your hormones raging.
Yoi....yoi.......yoi....wub.......

Re: If there is no subbass then it is not dubstep?
before halfstep took over in 2005 there were other sounds within dubstep and they werent necessarily all dominated by 33/41hz frequencies
there is good and bad music within all the subgenres...its never that black and white and ultimately the 'deep' heads increasingly it seems to me werent there any where near the beginning
of course...i hate a lot of the screechy stuff myself but i also dislike a lot of halfstep as its getting very formulaic
this is one reason stuff like addison groove and juke type stuff has done so well and butterz has gone from strength to strength
there is also some excellent tearout now from people like lost, benton, kutz amongst many others
i honestly dont know why these threads are still getting made...

Re: If there is no subbass then it is not dubstep?
not sure, sometimes if its a more chilled out track then the sub can interrupt the 'calmness' and it sounds better without a sub.. can't explain it properly but no it doesn't have to have sub-bass.. but maybe that's cos I'm more open minded than most people, I love all genres of music and personally yeah I like skrillex I think his productions are fucking top quality I couldn't give a shit if people don't like that, especially the people that play his music in sets and then come on here jumping on the band wagon pretending to not like him. Plus bro-step is stupid music is music I don't define things by genre I just listen to a song and if I like it ill listen to it and if I don't like it I wont listen.. SOME people on here are so arrogant about music they think there cool for only listening to the old school dubstep, well your not you're just ignorant

Re: If there is no subbass then it is not dubstep?
All the people saying there's no sub in brostep are crazy. Sub is not the focus, but it's always present and sometimes very low. Songs like Sweet Shop in particular have really really low sub that you will not hear without a good subwoofer. If you don't believe me, throw the song in fruityloops (or whatever) and check out the parametric eq. Saying "brostep sucks cause there is NO sub in it" is just not a good argument. Saying "brostep sucks because it sounds like robo-farts" IS an acceptable argument.
But honestly a genre completely focused on nothing but subbass is destined to lose the popularity contest. Many people find dubstep horribly boring without any midrange/high synths or vocals. Sub itself can only impress so many people. Plus all the kids listening without a subwoofer think that Loefah songs are completely empty with nothing but spaced out kicks and snares.
Most of the people on this forum will continue to support the original dubstep sound which is great, but it should be no surprise why producers like Skrillex have become the most popular.

There's no originality with bro-step tho, every song follows the same format and has the same style of bassline...And it just sounds a little wack....
Bro-step is a one trick pony.
Dubstep is Master of All.

Surely it's this sort of thing that makes people say all the "bro-step all sounds the same" stuff?Metabolic wrote:although i am gettin annoyed with havin to use the standard drum structure
