@WeBang I agree, I should probably make a 'revised' version using everyone's advice here. This was my first go at dubstep. Half the time I didn't even know what I was doing lol I was using the little knowledge I had on Fruity and Massive.

@Anomik thanks man, yeah most of my ideas came from skrillex's scary monsters. I think it's the same key?

@paradigm haha yeah I know, I should fix that, cheers for the feedback.

Any basic tips on I get that tight kick and snare? I'm using FL.

I heard FL is frowned upon here ha

I did my last tune in FL. The reason its frowned upon because its not a real DAW. It started as a pattern maker beat box and then they added SO MUCH SHIT too it you dont know where to start. I made my song into eternity with FL10. Basically put the kick on a separate track bring out the lows 60-80K and a snap around 5 K Make sure you bass all your levels off of the kick if it starts to sound muddy that means that your other sounds are taking over those frequncies. Thats why people sidechain the kick to the sub so they dont get competing freq which sound like garbage. Make sure you have a good kick sample too, if you dont then try layering and copiying the notes to the other kick.

Its really a good tune just fix the keys and see how it sounds. Unless you like it like that. Im inpressed that you got massive to work in FL to get a close to Skrillex sound. I didnt have the patience to do that at the time so I just moved on style wise. Skrillex loads everything into a sampler and triggers it. Thats how he gets those super quick trasitions. Dont know what synth hes using though. Some one told me that on Scary Monsters the bass was actually a blown speaker that he recorded and he used a shit computer. Its not what you have its what you know and what you not affraid to do with the question or knowledge.

im aware of the definition, but im not aware as to why its frowned upon or should be considered lightly?

FL Studio is a DAW. But I think that because most of the people who use it are complete noobs that it is frowned upon by more experienced electronic musicians. I started out in FL...that's how most people start out these. It's just one of those things you eventually grow out of because there are so many more DAWs out there that have more capabilities.

I guess your right paul, its a warped daw though, everything in patterns? What are you crazy? Perfect for dance and electronica so I agree you grow out of it. My firned did that, he went from a triton to cool edit pro to FL studio then to Reason (after that he got signed) then to LOGIC PRO ON A MAC BOOK. That seems to be the flow.

I thought it sounds too much like you're trying to sound like Skrillex. The production itself isn't THAT bad though, although your kicks and snares don't sit forward enough in the mix for my tastes. The pads and synths are taking over a bit too much IMO

Raven Revisited.

Post by frnke » Sun Jul 24, 2011 12:04 am

Using everyone's advice I made a '2.0' version of Raven.

Soundcloud

Doesn't sound that good, but I decided to move on from this project.
Feedback would be great.

Cheers everyone :4:
