help with eq/mixdown.
So im looking for help with eq and mix downs i already looked at the Huge production thread and looked at mixing and mastering thread before i just get linked to their.
I understand that their should be headroom in the mix and i keep the volumes sitting at around -8 for drums and -10 for sub about -16 for pads. im not really haveing issues so much with keeping things sitting even in volume and i know even though it sounds low if you want to have it mastered haveing a good mixdown is important.
My problem is where to eq or high pass/low pass my sounds to keep them from clashing? atm i high pass my kick at 56hz and low pass my sub at 56hz the sub is pure sine and i usually stick between F1 and G1. What im cofused on is what frequencey ranges to have my snares hats synths pads ect cut off at high passed or low passed .
Any help would be appreciated

Re: help with eq/mixdown.
low cut EVERYTHING that isnt bass, well low cut the kick so you have space for the sub, but everything else low cut all bass out because you just dont need it, low cut it as far as you think i necessary, some hats can go right up to like 5KHz maybe if you dont want anything else below it.

I agree with skimpi. Also I think just playing with the EQ and listening to what you're doing and how it's effecting that certain sound and the whole mix is I big thing. It takes some practice, but it'll help.

Re: help with eq/mixdown.
First off, a pure sine shouldn't need to be low passed. If you're having clashing frequencies with your kick and sub, then cut a notch into the one you want to be less dominant. Usually people want to make space for the kick, so the they cut a notch out of the sub. I usually cut the sub out of my kick and layer it on my sub, but that's just me. But a pure sine won't need to be lowpassed.
Second, do what sounds good. if your sub sounds better with your kick when you lowpass the sub at ~56 then do it!
