any synth should be able to achieve a bass sound.
it just takes practice and know how. why look for a quick fix?

What DAW are you on? Most come with at least basic synths, sometimes very advanced ones. Check out TAL Elektro and his others, google Togu Audio Line. Also Oatmeal, Synth1, Crystal, Superwave...

Re: Decent Free Bass Vst's or synths?
Using FL studio 9 atm, havnt really played about with the synths that come with it as i heard theyre pretty poor, but ill have a look at those too.wormcode wrote:What DAW are you on? Op, you want the itchy synths pack.
Re: Decent Free Bass Vst's or synths?
FL has some of the best plugins around man, the synths too. 3osc is godly for basses, deceptively simple synth with a big sound. Can do anything from reeses to insane sub to 8bit fx.asdfjkl wrote:Using FL studio 9 atm, havnt really played about with the synths that come with it as i heard theyre pretty poor, but ill have a look at those too.wormcode wrote:What DAW are you on? Re: Decent Free Bass Vst's or synths?
3 sine/square/triangle oscs, LFO, Filter, Detuning, Stereo spreader, Envelopes and more all built in that little thing. Plus you can load your own waveshapes/sounds in it! I meant sub bass, but it also has saw waves and a noise osc so there's plenty of options. Add a little parallel processing with the Hardcore pedal/ampsim plugin or maybe the Waveshaper. Makes me want to install the new FL tbh. It can do some serious things with a little creativity, but that goes for any plugin. Except HamVST, that's just cheating.ChadDub wrote:Now I don't know about that lol

Re: Decent Free Bass Vst's or synths?
The TAL vsts are really good, really liking noise maker and elek7ro but theres no way of modulating them?
im kinda struggling with crystal haha, although the sounds look quite promising

Re: Decent Free Bass Vst's or synths?
They both have basic modulation options in the form of a couple of LFOs and mod wheel. If you mean automation too, afaik every knob and slider on them can be automated. Crystal has a nice mod matrix, but automating and assigning MIDI CC was weird from I remember, although it's possible. I don't have it installed right now but I think it's been updated quite a bit since I last used it anyway.asdfjkl wrote:The TAL vsts are really good, really liking noise maker and elek7ro but theres no way of modulating them?im kinda struggling with crystal haha, although the sounds look quite promising

i may have used the wrong terminology, but you know in NI massive theres the performer? how do you control the cuttoff on the filters and stuff like that without this? i did try to use a formula controller but it kind of failed... any ideas?
Re: Decent Free Bass Vst's or synths?
Yeah you can use the LFO, assign an LFO to the cutoff (dest) and then automate the LFO knob. Or just automate the actual filter which is what I would recommend as I find that more precise. Or do both.asdfjkl wrote:i may have used the wrong terminology, but you know in NI massive theres the performer? how do you control the cuttoff on the filters and stuff like that without this? i did try to use a formula controller but it kind of failed... any ideas?
That filter on the TAL site is somewhat similar to the performer in Massive, check it out.
