I plan on sending this to Hemlock Recordings

Post by Lectric » Fri Jul 22, 2011 7:01 pm

title. This track is by far my best, and ive got good feedback so far on it. However i want this track to be as good as possible, because the goal is that i send it to Hemlock Recordings as a demo. so i want you guys to be as brutal and critiquing as you can. :4:

thanks guys :4:
my dream isnt to rock venues with brostep and have drunk people grinding nonstop to fireworks and strobe lights. the best thing i can imagine is djing a small venue with people who appreciate the sound, just goin eyes down to feel the bassweight :)

I would say that your mixdown is sounding good (in my headphones), bass might be a little loud, but over all sounding tight. I think your production is at a level you could start sending out to labels, though it might be best to wait a little longer... I am not sure what Hemlock are looking for, but I know they get sent loads of demos a week. So your track has to really has to stand out, and be of the highest level. I don't think this is there quite let tbh. You never know though, they might hear something I am not, and sign it.

Good luck ;-)

Ive always been a fan of hemlock and since they do have a wide range of bass music going on ive always wanted to be represented under their name. other labels im looking to send off to are Area, DLA, Sub Lab, Mindstep and so forth. any thoughts though on what i can do to take this song to the next level, because i do agree that something about it makes it sound slightly amateur when putting it up against other tracks... i just cant put my finger on it though

If I were sending something to a label I would mix it down on a ssl. Pay or figure out a way to get into a real studio! Probably would just need one or two sessions if you know what you are doing.

Nice old school style tune man! I don't know Hemlock Recs but I could see it getting released.
Before sending it to labels tho, I'd probably add a little more background sound effects to make it a little more progressive/less repetitive.
Also, I'm not familiar with contacting labels but isn't it better to send a few tunes they could choose from ?
Anyway, quality stuff !

I like it, my only critique is:

I don't quite know how the sending-demos game works, but maybe you could send it to more labels? Unless you are completely set on Hemlock releasing it

follow the progression of labels and try to figure out the direction of the their sound.

i think your tune is at the point to be released, but maybe hemlock isn't the right label for it.

i think you've got a great mixdown, but as far as a tune goes it's pretty much just a well produced drum beat, and the beat it's self is kind of a little too basic sounding for me to imagine a label like hemlock wanting to put on wax, especially when you look at what they've allready put out (ramadanman, james blake, untold etc..)

i think you're absolutely on the right track in terms of production, i just don't feel it really stands out from the million other 'dubstep' tunes that follow the same sound and layout.

that's just what i think though, i'd still send it and who knows maybe it'll be loved, whatever happens i could see your shit out there one day
