Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
first posts for me...
@cubicle - the vocal samples really help give it a somber, eery vibe. the only thing my mind was asking for from the track was perhaps added elements to help drive the progression. possibly, added complexity to the melody.
@mikeyp - i agree with others. the instrumentation sounds nice. for me, the drop does become a bit monotonous. if i was to approach i would look at the key you are playing in and string some additional notes throughout the mix. perhaps creating a bit more suspense (in a way that does not ruin your tune's vibe).
@darj - the vocals are excellence. sometimes i feel that the bass does not sync with them as well as it could. i heard this around the first drop. it's probably an issue of taste but it did stand out for me.
feedback greatly appreciated. this is the first tune i came up with. it's been through a lot and i started learning about a month ago. no mastering skills yet. i'm especially curious about what you think about the outro..is it out of place? thanks much.

@dejarut outro sounds good to me, but I'm wondering about your mixdown. Track sounds pretty muddy to me.
@Rebel I love that pluck synth! The bitcrushed yuy yuy yuy wobble shouldnt have been in there though.
@BudSpencerTron That is some nice vibe! Well done! Just thought I'd leave my positive feedback
@Cubicle I love that intro! Some of the notes don't flow with eachother. Which could be a good thing in your case. Its kinda like a jazzy -break the rules to keep the listener interested- type effect
Heres something I concocted within the past hour. Dunno if I should continue it, sounds pretty nice to me.
Soundcloud
EDIT: I decided to go ahead with the idea and turned it into a hiphop instrumental for future use. It sounds tight but is 7 mins and 30 secs. will upload in a few hours.

@Cubicle: That was tight, I loved that thing you did there in the main part, it was tight.
@BudSpencerTron: That was really REALLY tight. I loved how tight your vibe was and it really cooled me down after a hot day. I appreciate it man. Good job.
@Dejarut: Should work on your mastering man.
Here is a song I've been working on for about 3 weeks now, it's pretty good and I put a lot of hard work into it.

@ChadDub I'm not too sure what I'm listening to? I don't really know how to feedback it.
@jrisreal Clips a bit short, Everything works well sounds a bit too happy go lucky for me though (I like my shit dark like guinness) get a good few minutes going of it then post so I can give some real FB.
@dejaraut Deffo sort the mixdown//Besides that it sounds like it could be a half decent tune (too wobbly for me but I can see the appeal)
@exclaim doesn't really work for me sounds like you through some samples in a blender (Unless that was what you was going for) I think work on the structure first.
Project I been working on, Any feedback appreciated.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@jrisreal that sounds like it wants a voice pitched high singing that intro. i could see it progressing.
@chaddub i agree with LucasKane..it comes across as some ambience. Not sure what direction it's supposed to have.
@LucasKane 2:05 mark for example, you have a nice synth fade in and out that adds a good vibe. the amen break portion is a good touch but maybe create your own fill here?
yeah my tune really suffers at the mastering level right now. with the experience i have it's pretty much just me trying to cut all the lows out from where they don't belong and adjust levels from zero. i tried out the ozone izotope plugin on an audio track but i'm starting to wonder if i do more harm than good with it since my ear hasn't been trained to this.

I have over 7 minutes of it as a finished hiphop instrumental, but its taking so freaking long to upload.LucasKane wrote:@jrisreal Clips a bit short, Everything works well sounds a bit too happy go lucky for me though (I like my shit dark like guinness) get a good few minutes going of it then post so I can give some real FB.
your WIP is definitely something different, maybe mess with the levels of those basses because at some points, they came out too loud.
And chad, your tune is so beautiful! Made me want to cry.
EDIT: Ugh, SC wouldnt upload properly unless I rendered it in lower quality, so heres a low quality version:

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Obviously ignore mixing as it's not done but here is my newest WIP - Let me know what you think! On the drop right at the end, it isn't as powerful as it could be - That's a mixing problem!
Also, I don't really know how to fill out the section from 1min 06 to 1min 27.. Let me know if it sounds okay or how you would change it! Cheers!
Soundcloud
dejaraut - I REALLY like the faint, haunting vocal at the start - Really makes the intro! As the drums come in with the bass, I think it could use a bit taking off the top end but I like the build and anticipation it has! The bass itself.. Nasty.. The break at 1.06 came just in time! Maybe the bass needs changing just a little more after that break to keep it interesting.. Overall has a pretty good feel to it and want to see how you get on! I take it you haven't really EQ'd things yet..? Need to get on that!
jrisreal - I really like the airy and weak sound to the drums.. Goes really well with the melody. I think you should definitely carry on with this one.. It has a good melody and feel to it though I think it would serve better as an intro than an actual song then "beef" it up a little once it kicks in.. Great job though! I wish I could make melodies like that..
ChadDub - Haha, is that scratch as the start taken from a Dr Dre or Eminem song!? It sounds really familiar for some reason! I really like the chorusey .. Wow!! That is a cool noise at 30 seconds! Whoa... At 2.08 that volume pump is not good.. Turn that part down! Or compress! So I didn't have anything to comment on between 30 seconds and 2.08.. Definitely needs some pace adding to it at some point and a melody or something to fixate on! Otherwise though, good soundscaping
LucasKane - Digging this. I like the glitchy style and the backward melody that comes in is perfect... WHOOOAAAA sick. This is deep. The sub definitely needs to be turned up.. Am monitoring on KRK RP6's though so not sure if it's just too low for them.. On these though, could do with maybe even another 6 or 7dB on top of what you have now.. The amen break is the only part of this I don't like... I get what you are trying to do with it, I just don't think it works and would maybe change that up.. Otherwise - Absolute banger and I'm not normally into this style
mikeyp - I really like the epic strings at the start, sounds like a scene from a movie - The parts that come in over the top are epic too, the sounds are sculpted to perfection.. The mix needs a little work, I would like to hear more of the intro strings over the sounds you brought in. Building up.. Nice... Nice..... Drop is SICK. Hadn't heard any of your stuff before, I really like it dude.. I think the bass sound needs changing more at 1.23.. A whole new sound, maybe not even a wobble? I'm not sure.. But it sounds great so far!
RandoRando - If I remember right, the intro melody had no reverb in the stem... Great reverb, perfect for the sound! I like the fuzzy saw midrange from 36 seconds.. Sounds good! Maybe needs more of a hole carving for the arps but it sounds good fo' sho'. That vocal sample POPS out, sounds great! The subtle modulations work really well too.. Here we goooooo!!!!! Oh haha, I thought it was going to drop then! It didn't but I'm really liking the drum work.. Actually.. Fuck me! Is this programmed!? That's nuts mate, insane job on the drums and they sound nigh on perfect. Haha, the bass is well funny - Hurdy gurdy, hurdy gurdy.. Digging it, great job bro

@chaddub- yu got some cool noises goin on in there; trippy mechanical ambience is what this sound like to me.. i see this as good background soundscape.. you could throw a snare in there..have some yobs and wobs to make it more interesting and shit, possibilities are endless.
Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
thanks man. Which version are you referring to? The short one or the 7 minute one? I think I beefed up the drums on the longer one. And thanks for the comment on the melody!Ascian wrote:jrisreal - I really like the airy and weak sound to the drums.. Goes really well with the melody. @JRISREAL- really dig hip hop like this , nunna dat newave pop urban dance top chart shit.. yu really work those drums well dude, keys are super emotional, yu could probly sell that shit somewhere on the nets. defenently something someone could spit some crazy emotional shit on.
@Dejarut- i like the intro, wobs are deep, good transitions, would sound hell of alot better with some eq'ing forsure.
@ascian- cool intro.. snare needs to be brought up abit i think; love the panning on the vocals; good pad work and stutters, diggin that quick dnb beat.. lyrics are very cool. killer build up, wish that drop hadnt ended i was gettin hype, keep workin on it.
this wip is like my 4th attempt at some dnb.. the other 3 just got..lost somewhere i guess.. anyway this one was inspired by a dream i had this morning.. i heard a tune that was really nice in it.. woke up and realised the tune wasnt real; so i jumped on my computer and started working asap.

@Ascian Not bad. The bass noise in the first half should be thinner though, its interfereing with the flow of the track. actually dont know if a bass is the best sound to use for that part. Is that dubstep or a different genre? it seems faster than typical dubstep and its got a different vibe than most dubstep
@Rebel thanks! I may try to sell it, I may use it myself. And yeah screw that gay crap on the radio. Now about your WIP, the bass sounds to me like it needs some more lower end, but hey I'm on laptop speakers atm. Not a bad track at all I actually dig it, its got lots of power in the bassline. I would like to hear some more movement in the bass like phasers and neurofunk-style notches

It's been a couple months since my last song. Anyways.
dejaraut - For your first song this is nice. It does sound muddy but some nice detail is in this. And I love the outro. Infact the song I'm putting up for feedback has a much lamer melody than yours. Good job!
jrisreal - It's hard to give feedback when it's low quality. It has a great melody. I wish I could hear it in good quality. Drum work is precise and perfect as well. Awesome, I like it. A rapper on it would add to it and it sounds like thats what the beats purpose is. Again, really digging the drum work.
Ascian - At 1.06 I dislike the what happens. The intro is nice. Maybe at .55 keep the melody the same and drop it, my opinion. A plateau would be nice but the one that's there now doesn't cut it. Maybe the yeaaayuhhh at .55 should keep the same melody as the build. Your melody after .55 isn't bad, but it shakes up what you set up.
Now for my uninspired song. Since the melody is drab, what do you like about it build wise or mixdown wise? I think the snare and kick shine through after I eq'd and compressed them both. Also I didn't put a single sub on this track, the patches I made naturally had low frequencies. Does it sound bassy? I'd like to know. Thanks!

First time posting here... And I was like, yeah... why not? I never asked feedback before, maybe it could be nice!
I'm sorry I can't give feedback back, because I only have shitty laptop speakers at the moment... But def. coming back to give some feedback!
Wel yeah, here's my track... It's not that dubsteppy, but ya it's 140BPM, so why not?

So yeah, hello and stuff!
I've been lurking around this forum for a few weeks now and thought I would share what I've been working on. I'm still pretty new to Dubstep and traditionally have played drums for punk rock/metal/hard rock bands. This is my first attempt at creating any dance type music.
Let me know what you think. I'm open to critisism. If it sucks ..tell me why, please.
