there's no decent 2 step cos the pioneers of new school garage (uptown records forum users basically) decided that 4/4 was the way forward (because they have no souls, clearly (no offence uptown nerds, i love you) as 2 step was very sexy music)

Think quite a few got mentioned in here. My favourites from then are probably "Special Request" by Kid P and Phoebe 1, Down on Me, Ramp by Ms Dynamite and Menta (and Boo of course), This One by Jaimeson, Lost 1z by Jay Da Flex, Masterplan by Groove Chronicles (actually pretty much anything by Groove Chronicles tbh - loving Myron at the moment).
Sounds like a top outfit Deci

wookie could have gone either way around 2003 - funky house/dubstep..
went the wrong way imo.

girls wanted funky house cos nobody was making 2 step anymore. garage got too dark for em, then the nerds took over to 'save ukg' and made 4/4 which is rigid and bumpy and basically utterly horrible.

innit Del, it was the soundtrack to my school days, gettin pissed down the park, making up dances, first kisses etc etcDelendi wrote:I started out on ukg at 12 too deci. it's what i mainly listen to. i DO listen to new stuff cos it's what's on radio when all you can pick up in your house is freeze fm, but i don't ENJOY it... for it is pap and an insult to its forefatheral ukg past. i like dubstep a looooooot, but i don't think anything will ever make me feel like ukg does. it came to me at a crucial time in my growth as an adolescent... etc.
it made me realise that pop music was utter shite and i was strictly underground! Until Pied Piper 'Do you really like it' then i became a junglist!
I love
also, me and my girl constantly argue between 2 step and 4x4. I prefer the latter, I know, I know... soulless etc. It might not be clever but it is BIG!
e.g. the up norf mix of this tune

I imagine it would be amazing but doubt that it would be received that well in the current dubstep climate what with some dnb heads trying to write out garage's role in the origins of the sound (not slaggin off all dnb people before people get the knock). I'm fucking bored of hard, dark and angry dubstep so garage is the perfect antidote.elgato wrote:can you imagine how good his dubstep would be if he still made it though?!Shonky wrote:Tbh he does do it better than most.tronman wrote:..and then all the girls wanted funky house...

Plus I'm pretty sure Wookie makes quite a tidy living from doing house and he's pretty damn good at it, so I don't imagine he has much need to test the waters elsewhere. I don't think he moved to a more commercial sound, essentially his sound is pretty commercial from the start. Pop elements in dubstep don't seem to go down too well with the underground which just seems to be fairly reactionary - sounds commercial, must be shit
Hmm....
