still very much into old school

also feeling the odd bits of new 4x4, the stuff which borders on grime like d'explicit and t2 i really rate. but i havent heard decent 2 step (other than from producers around the dubstep scene) for a while

there's no decent 2 step cos the pioneers of new school garage (uptown records forum users basically) decided that 4/4 was the way forward (because they have no souls, clearly (no offence uptown nerds, i love you) as 2 step was very sexy music)

Think quite a few got mentioned in here. My favourites from then are probably "Special Request" by Kid P and Phoebe 1, Down on Me, Ramp by Ms Dynamite and Menta (and Boo of course), This One by Jaimeson, Lost 1z by Jay Da Flex, Masterplan by Groove Chronicles (actually pretty much anything by Groove Chronicles tbh - loving Myron at the moment).

girls wanted funky house cos nobody was making 2 step anymore. garage got too dark for em, then the nerds took over to 'save ukg' and made 4/4 which is rigid and bumpy and basically utterly horrible.

also, me and my girl constantly argue between 2 step and 4x4. I prefer the latter, I know, I know... soulless etc. It might not be clever but it is BIG!

LOL! Impossible, but for every lost tape in a pack i have someone elses from a different one! it all even's out really, lots of people, lots of tape packs and everyones got some tapes of each!

Just started listening to old garage, I like it a lot- actually prefer some of it to a lot of the dubstep around now too.

I imagine it would be amazing but doubt that it would be received that well in the current dubstep climate what with some dnb heads trying to write out garage's role in the origins of the sound (not slaggin off all dnb people before people get the knock). I'm fucking bored of hard, dark and angry dubstep so garage is the perfect antidote.

Plus I'm pretty sure Wookie makes quite a tidy living from doing house and he's pretty damn good at it, so I don't imagine he has much need to test the waters elsewhere. I don't think he moved to a more commercial sound, essentially his sound is pretty commercial from the start. Pop elements in dubstep don't seem to go down too well with the underground which just seems to be fairly reactionary - sounds commercial, must be shit
