Write one neat melody and rinse it to death throughout the track, rely on original sound design and brutality to separate yourself from the pack. I have lots of songs that alternate only between f and f# on the bassline, make fun sounds and nobody will care.
A conglomeration of my old tearout tunes I like, and my new ones I don't

i see people dropping some interesting stuff so i`ll share too. Try this out I guarantee you`ll get something out of it... Play some presets and choose the sounds that you like. Instead of messing around with the preset and tweak it so you get to the bit you like, just export one note (play it over 1,2 or whatever bars you need) and then just cut the part you like. Do this with 3 or 4 presets and you will have a decent bassline. Of course you have to arrange it and put the parts into places that fit.
