Welcome to the board weedhelmet!

Just so you know, in the feedback thread we always give feedback to at least three people before posting your own track.. Just so the feedback keeps coming!

I will write a bit about your track once feedback has been given :dunce:

Typing while I listen, catching random tracks on the upscroll so if I missed you my bad, harsh crit is nothing personal fellas.

Specimen Yarp- Wicked intro, like the synth, Drop and intro are on totally different levels though, seems way busy, everything lacks definition, I don't personally dig the 4x4 bit. It needs some work but has potential, nice datsik vibe on the sounds man. Keep at it.

Eldoogle- sound design is cool and everything but the track kinda sounds like it was made on a laptop or cheap headphones, like, it's not bad, the ideas are there, it's just kinda like guitarpro for dubstep. You should look at your spaces, add a little reverb, and delay, and a sub, yes it needs a sub, and try to widen it out a little via panning and stuff.

Ascian- Sub Kick needs quiet to fit in the mix, snare needs loud for same reason. Samples are neat, hats are rad, melody seems unfocused throughout, Vocals seem too reverbed, builds are tricky haha, keep getting fooled. I like where it's going but it needs definition, a little less verb, and obviously mix word, maybe ditch the trick drop too, out of personal taste, dunno man I like where it's headed but there isn't much to feed on here.

Here's my latest WIP/Demo thing, sortof iffy on it, looking for general critique, mix, sound design, whatever. Enjoy and be harsh:

I'm digging the hat syncopation of the hats, and the stabs. My personal suggestion is build up to the drop a bit more, or turn the basslines down a bit. They don't quite fit the rest of the mix, as soon as they come in, the drums pretty much vanish in the mix. Something I do to avoid this base my mixdowns on my drums, keep my kick the loudest thing in the mix, around -6db to be exact, and basslines around -10db maybe -8db, if it sounds quiet then, it can always be fixed at the end with some self-mastering.

I wish this tune had a different kick, something darker and pretty heavy to fit the rest of it. You tried stuff like pitching the whole tune down an octave or two? Dunno, kinda helps in making stuff sound real weird and how to manipulate some sounds.

Soundcloud
HeyMISTA YuNOquantizePIANO????
I think this kind of tune would be better off straightened out rather than wonky, it sounds more synthetic than most wonky hip hop, s personally id go the quantized way. Maybe a little less reverb on the snare to, give it more body and blam

Soundcloud
I reckon this could do with some more high end, try band EQ/compression on the master. But the vocal sounds good, the way you process it at the start sounds cool, ghostverbing? Also big on the hat movement. And I don't think 6 to 27 seconds needs filling, it sounds good to me, but if it bothers you, you may as well just cut it out

Soundcloud
Good jump up progression you have there, now you ought to work on some extra patches before it goes stale. Wouldn't sound bad worked on like some original sin stuff imo

Soundcloud
I think you need more hi hats throughout, the tune sounds empty. Use some crashes and rides aswell

The tune I'd like some perspective on is this:
Soundcloud
Like how do you think the beats sound? They flow well and consistently? Any mix issues aswell. Arrangement etc
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

@kes-es

I had my speakers all the way up listening to the hats and drums then megatron comes out of nowhere and cock slaps me in the face :o  . I do like the intro the computery vibe I reckon a nice atmospheric FX stretched out behind it maybe from the bluezone artificial FX pack would fit perfectly give it that terminator 1 war scene vibe. I'm against brostep but what your making sounds like it and a lot of people are feeling that at the moment so yeah. The mid bass sounds a bit high but it flows well. I'd probably split the mid bass and sub and lower the sub a bit so it has a right nice little rumble. ;-)

@weedhelmet

the intro is a bit too much sounds really staticy maybe cut the length of it and whack a delay so its not so harsh on the ears? the mixdown is pretty bad i'd focus on that the snare needs a proper EQ (I'm against wobble in general so don't expect positive feedback from me :P) Some the mid bass's sound like they are overlapping. I'd mainly focus on the mixdown first and you will be on the road to a standard brostep tune :)

@Specimen-yarp

BLOODY BROSTEP IS EVERYWHERE! sorry had to let that out, I like the intro the robot stomps it sounds like a rottun intro, I like the lead aswell. The vocal goes well everything fits well I'd say the lead is a bit loud on my end or maybe its eq'd slightly off (might just be my dog shit speakers) I'm not a fan of when you switch it up and turn it into more of a stepper I liked the whole sway you had going before. I'd maybe whack a ghost snare before the snare or a reverse perc to give it a bit more of a shuffle but I'm a perc whore in general.
Looking forward to seeing the end product

Heres an updated version of my current WIP any feedback appreciated!

@zebraman love it but especially the house acapella thats what i wanna here :W: dont know juts finish it maybe make a drop with only pads and acapella bring the melody in and boom some more bongos or only bassline and beat so it keeps the listener.

@kes-es the bass is pure filth to tell you that haha nice, but the drums suffer little bit snare is punchy though, but the bass is so overwhelming

@weedhelmet that are some fucking heavy sounds but maybe differ them little bit more in the mix ,but the main groove with the bam bam bambambam i would take my main aim on that one and make it as heavy as possible

@specimanyarp heavy sub; did you try to follow the midrange wobble with the sub? maybe it gives some room to breath or fill in some sounds? but its heavy

@lucaskane thats some really nice sub love how it wobbles, nice mixdown to hm really hard to find something maybe just try to make the midrangebass little bit louder or cripsier with some tube or something but that would be just on top; very good :W:

thats a tune i posted a while ago, took it little bit further

didnt know how id feel about this song when it first started, interesting intro, i like the blippy glitch sounds, one thing id change is the hats almost seem a tad loud. wasnt expecting that kinda drop at all, i was thinkin it would go into more chill but it really just assaults the ears with grime, sick sick bass, are you using massive/razor at all?

@urbannerd62 loving your tune "simplicity", intro is deep but there's something about the drop that seems a bit week in comparison to the sound of the intro. nice though. "Shes on fire" is the one though!

@slyman really like the idea behind "black hole vacuum", just not enough of the drums. i reckon it would sound pretty sweet with them pushed up in the mix.

@eldoogle re: love me police rmx.... intro sounds like the tunes gunna be quite lively, but gutted by the drop. it loses too much energy. maybe try a different kit aswell. nice idea though

Take-2 - You've got some nice sounds going here, i think the flutey melody is a tad repetitive, i would just use it at the start of every four bars so it still has a presence just not all the way through the track, the sub also i think needs to have a little bit of movement, a nice reese might work nicely. as for the second drop, was really not expecting that the kick gets lost a little bit here with all the stuff you've got going on, i can tell you've grasped the harsh bases nicely, id process them a little more because at the moment they seem a little too standard but yeah, overall its got a nice groove.

Dejaraut - nice little cheeky intro on this, im not sure about the bass when it drops, however the hugely reverbey guitar is sick! id just have that solo'd to be honest im proper feeling that, the drums i think could do with spicing up abit, i like this though!

BudSpencertron - yes, yes yes yes yes levels need sorting abit id say, but yes......i like this, basses are class

NOW MY TURN!

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll get working on a new mix soon. :corndance:

Specimen-Yarp - My only complaint is that I wish the track was longer. Very nice bass you got though!

LucasKane - Good use of reverse samples and delay!! I love the track I just personally think it's slightly minimalistic but maybe that's what you're going for. I wonder what it would sound like with another sound harmonizing with the bass.

BudSpencertron - Not much to say about your track except that I love it! Again.. another song I wish was longer.

dejaraut - I'm not sure if you were going for a mix that has no high end but your mix is very dull and lifeless. It really needs lots more upper frequency sparkle in my opinion. Also I'd suggest cutting some of that lower midrange cardboard sound.

take2 - Oh yeah! I really dig this track. Very nice gated reverb on the snare! The wobbles are mind bendingly awesome, keep it up. Much love!!!

Kes-Es - Heavy Heavy Heavy!!! Love it! I agree with Rubadub13, the hi-hats at the beginning sound just a little too loud. What's with everyone making their songs under 2 mins? Damn just when I get into it ..it's over. :(

ascian - vocal arrangement is great. the drop yeah it might hit harder but i do appreciate it as it is. i want to say that it takes a while to get to that drop but then again it doesn't. i guess i'm used to that kind of dropping occuring earlier?

rebel - i like where it's headed. only tiny thing i would think is that some drum fills in your transitions may make it sound interesting. but it's just a little clip so far, hard to tell.

eldoogle - i'm not going to comment on the mixdown because i wasn't listening through very good headphones. perhaps a little more variation to the melody? but that might throw off your drum/bass vibe. it's a strangely upbeat feel to such a bass-driven tune.

weedhelmet - it's pretty aggressive and a little dissonant and noisy for my tastes. perhaps cleaning up the bass and all will let it drive a bit more? i agree with others though, the intro seems rough as well.

kes-es - the build up is good. i liked the other elements being introduced but yeah the drop didn't suit me too much. the bass did seem a bit loud for the mix.

budspencertron - good stuff. it's got a kind of devious hip hop vibe. maybe picking up the drum pace and throwing vocals over it at some point will drive it further?

E-T-F - i like it. i'm wondering where the mix is headed? going to keep it ambient or mix in other elements? good stuff.

thanks for the feedback so far. yeah i'm having a hard time learning the eq business, it's still a work in progress in that department.

still need feedback on the tune in the sig

@kes-es holy fuck didnt see that coming lol sick, seriously my ears feel raped after listening to that love that high pitched sound tips on making it?

@etf interesting approach to a tune super chilled out, just not sure where the eventuality would land with this track big ups though loving those morphing bass sounds :)

@dejarut i think youve got some good ideas but the track seems very quiet alot of your sounds are muffled like youve cut the trouble or through a cut off filter on the whole thing maybe bring some of the elements of your track out to be a little brighter and more audible keep at it

WIP in sig comments or just have listen either or, just a preview of some shit im working on.

I'm a complete whore for reversing samples and percussion  Yeah I was going for a minimalistic vibe more of an older Dubstep sound I was trying to achieve I find that Dubstep is lacking space nowadays if that makes sense (Tunes you can smoke a fatty to). big ups on the feedback and for feeling it!

#BeastmodeforDummies
the intro is quite cool. I digg the phasing piano, but it needs to be eq a bit more to make it sound more firm. that synth which drops in is ok, but work on it's envelopes to make the track more interisting. i'd add a wobble bass from time to time or any other synths to make it all sounds better. bu keep at it man!

#dejaraut
cool intro. i like the atmos in the whole track and that background guitar is fucking amazing! :) the wobble bass needs to be mixed properly. work with the EQ. needs more presence! drums is almost always a way of prefence. but I'd use a stronger snare for you track. :) maybe it would sound cool if you added a ride going 4x4? i like that effect. I can imagine it would fit with your post-rock influenced song too. :)

#weedhelmet
freaky intro. cool sounds. sounds good in stereo. the main synth in the drop is fucking beast. the filling synths aren't as powerful. but drop is cool and experimental. I like the highpitched noises coiming from time to time too. I'd reckon that your drums need more punch. :)

There's is no reverb on the snare and that piano effect was intentional but if it's too much, I'll tone it down.
