as someone into dub, as it evolved thru reggay, well before dubstep existed,
dubstep being referred to as "dub" is but youthful ignorance
of how to realize & move to the step within polyrhythms,
be able to hear the primacy of sub & space over brockout noise.

a few will hear it & find the deeper groove
whereas most, essentially hormone-beguiled & wanting a workout,
(nothing wrong with that)
will follow the piper, promising frantic oblivion, back towards dnb.

Youthful ignorance is therefore in this case rather annoying.

I hate the newbie "dubheads" who call it dub. Dub is it's own genre. Why get the two confused?

Am I the only person who finds the term 'tune' a tad irritating? When I hear the word tune, I think of the melody line of a piece of music or song, like the tune of 'mary had a little lamb'. Though i guess the phrase 'oi blud chek dis piece' won't catch on very quick in Britain...

Oh God, this. "Latest dubstep song" "that's my favourite dubstep song" sounds so awkward and stupid.

Who does this? If you listen to Electro and listen to Electro House, there should be no confusion.

reminds me of when I was singing some old 90's techno song and my coworker said "they should dub that. RRREEEOOOOOOOOREEEOOOOOOOVEVEVEVEVVEVEVEVEVVEVE"
as if dubbing something is making it a shitty skrillex remix

Yeah, tune always denotes a single melody for me rather than a complete piece of music. Having said that, there needed to be a word to refer to vocal-less electronic music (instramental implies live instruments), and tune does nicely. It's just a broadening of the meaning instead of calling something by the wrong name.

Glad this thread got bumped so I appreciated this.
Maybe it's the legacy of those who fell for post-modernist drivel.

i still have to correct people.
most of the people i correct have never even heard of king tubby, let alone know that he single handedly came up with sampling/the remix etc in the 70s.
i cry a little inside when people wont listen to the voice of reason.

Gone are the days of simply putting a donk on it, put a fucking dub on it.
