SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
Also, just a heads up I will have the next competition running by August 15th, some new improvements will be underway and before I had a chance to make them I wanted to sort out what members felt about these questions:
First of all panel or no panel?
What do members feel about having track critiques in the rules and guidelines as part of submitting to the competitions?
How many votes would you like to have per track? I was feeling three votes per entry, that way users have their choice of top three.
Along with bragging rights, perhaps we could have actual prizes next time around, perhaps ones choice of digital release? Any other ideas for prizes?

Not sure what you mean by track critiques - if people have to give a brief description of their track when submitting, then yes. If you mean people have to justify their vote, then no.HAACK wrote:What do members feel about having track critiques in the rules and guidelines as part of submitting to the competitions?
Thinking 3 votes per person would be ample. Would allow people to vote for their own, as well as rating their preferred out of the other options.HAACK wrote:How many votes would you like to have per track? I was feeling three votes per entry, that way users have their choice of top three.
It'd be hard pressed to find a prize everyone wants - for example, a digital release would only be of use to producers who also happen to DJ.HAACK wrote:Along with bragging rights, perhaps we could have actual prizes next time around, perhaps ones choice of digital release? Re: SAMPLE PACK DISCUSSION
I have a pretty strong feeling people get friends to vote for their tracks in dsfp comps. Think voting should be in the thread, publicly.
3 votes is cool.
Cool with a prize. Should be like a lock of burial's hair or something.

Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
i think a panel is a bad idea, as it leaves it down to just a few peoples personal taste, whereas it should be a LOT of peoples personal taste that decides it.
I don't really know what you mean by track critiques?
Three votes is fine, then we don't get to just vote for our own tune.
As for an actual prize, hmm. An all expenses paid visit to the caribbean would be nice.
If not, i'll settle just for being king of DSF for a month, and you all have to call me 'your majesty' and do as i say.

Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
Nice one for gettin this set up as a seperate discussion, could we get this thread bumped?
Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
By critiques I mean that entries should submit their opinions (what they liked, what they didn't, imporvements, etc.) about the track in addition to voting, that way producers get some critical feedback
Also Caribbean trip would be sound, but maybe on 50?
Please spread this post around, im goin to shoot an email to everyone that entered and get some more opinions.

Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
I don't think a panel would be a good idea, it seems a lot fairer that the winner be decided by votes from everyone, rather than the opinions of a few.First of all panel or no panel?
This could work; it would definately make it a lot harder for people to get others to vote for them. Not sure about it though in terms of the reception it will get from participants. What do members feel about having track critiques in the rules and guidelines as part of submitting to the competitions?
Yeah I think 3 votes is perfect, that way I think you'll get a much better representation of the winning track. How many votes would you like to have per track? I was feeling three votes per entry, that way users have their choice of top three.
Prizes could be a good idea. It would make it more interesting to people who haven't tried it before. I'm afraid I'm at a loss for ideas of what the prize(s) could be though.Along with bragging rights, perhaps we could have actual prizes next time around, perhaps ones choice of digital release? Any other ideas for prizes?

Prize - plastic kazoo. Yo.
Re: SAMPLE PACK DISCUSSION
This is true, I remember in the 30th one Jrisreal put his track on Soundcloud and got his friends to vote for himnowaysj wrote:I have a pretty strong feeling people get friends to vote for their tracks in dsfp comps. Think voting should be in the thread, publicly.
I think the voting should be in smaller rounds, kinda like the 24hr contest was, because it's hard to find time to listen to every track in the same sitting before voting.
Critiques are a good idea too, imo.
Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
I don't feel there should be much changed from the last comp, the only thing flawed was the voting. Which is easily fixed assuming the tracks are released to the public on time and the voting is kept within DSF.
In terms of prizes well, I have a label, I might be up for putting out the winner as a release but there would be a few contractual things we would need to discuss beforehand. Let me know if you'd like to talk about that.

Having a release on your record label as the prize would make you ineligible for entering, you do realise that? Conflict of interests and all.
Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
It's not really a 'conflict' of interests, they're just coincidental interests.wub wrote:Sparxy wrote:I don't feel there should be much changed from the last comp, the only thing flawed was the voting. Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
I think we should have always done voting in thread. I think it would be a good idea that you would have to post your top three faves, and descriptions of why you chose them. I miss getting feedback for doing these, it was my prize! As for prizes if we are gonna done that we definitely need to get the voting situation straight, prizes would give these sally's an even bigger reason to be wack as funk.

Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
I don't agree with that, as his track would still need to be voted the winner. And if he has his own label he can release his own tunes when he likes anyway, so what difference does it make to enter it into a comp?wub wrote:Sparxy wrote:I don't feel there should be much changed from the last comp, the only thing flawed was the voting. As far as track critiques go, sounds like an interesting idea. Although i wonder if it may put people off voting, as it is already a time consuming process to listen to a load of tunes.

If people can't be bother to put down why they liked a few song they shouldn't vote anyways. fuck em.
Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
No panel.
Voting should be 3 votes, no more no less IMO. that way, people can't just vote for their own and have to vote for the others they liked best.
critique should be encouraged, but not enforced.
prize: new studio monitors!
nah how about some money or somethin

Re: SAMPLE PACK COMPETITION // DISCUSSION
yeah giving feedback on tunes should definitely be encouraged (I always do it), but I don't think it should be a rule.
I would be all for a panel IF we could find more high profile people from diverse backgrounds (not JUST dubstep), like somewhat established artists and label owners.
In thread voting is a good idea, but i'm worried some people will get butt-hurt and try to disqualify votes from new members.
Prize should stay the same: an audience and a handful of feedback
