Decks ect in Halls

Post by Eplo » Sat Jul 30, 2011 12:38 pm

easy all, am going to sussex uni in september (in theory), im staying in halls (Brighthelm for any sussex heads), was wondering what people have done with their set ups while in halls? is there enough space and/or any noise issues? got technics and some cdjs, but im hoping to get traktor/serato and ditch the cds. Anyone from sussex got any inside info?

eergh brighthelm, east slope all the way man.
Ive just finished staying in east slope, in general noise complaints are rare really. If youre really unlucky and youre near a family or something then you may get a complaint but i doubt it. What i did for my 1210s is just use my work desk. My laptop and uni work can take the bed/floor instead! Brighthelm rooms are pretty big from what i remember so you should have plenty of space for your set up.
East slope parties are the ones though you'll probs be asked to bring your stuff down to parties, just keep drunks away from them!
Ill be about on campus abit anyway and probably be at the freshers fair as i run the bass society (me and a couple of others only started it last year and getting funding is a bitch from the shitty union)
Its still 2006

I was in Park Village 09/10. What's going on with the Bass society? I've not joined any societies at all, but I'm intrigued as to what you guys do...

I'm hoping to get some 1210s at some point. No money right now though...Christmas maybe.

Got a decent amount of records now though.

We did put on nights at East Slope bar every couple of weeks, with us lot djing and guest local residents/djs playing as well. It was a mixed result though, it just wasn't the right venue, or time (9-12pm haha). We had big plans for the society (expanding into Brighton, booking bigger djs, members cards with discount to brighton bass nights, mix cds, dj competitions) but like dindin said, it was a bitch getting funding so was hard to get anything substantial done. People show interest, we had over 130 signatures for the mailing list from the last re-freshers fair, but no one was willing to take that extra step and sign up officially on the union website. And without enough members... no funding. So yeah, We're debating whether to revive it after or summer or not...

space is fine. noise is dependent on yr house mates, but you can get away with a fair bit.

brighthelm was top, a bunch of my mates lived there, biggest houses, some grass to do bbqs on etc. i had lewes court, twas good. tho , this was back in 07.

sussex is a great uni, first year was a proper laugh. enjoy.

Yeah i was in Lewes Court too and we had some bangin parties. Tis all dependant on your flatmates/flats above/below/next to you, but most folk are up for a party.

For general Sussex Uni info/opinions and nights on in Brighton there's this thread... http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.p ... sussex+uni

Harbinger hit the nail on the head really but like the core group of us meet up, jam ,discuss all things bass, have a mix go to nights. etc. The more the merrier really because we've all concluded as a group Brighton just lacks something for bass music nights. Its only really every so often does a night come along where its a top top night with the vibe being perfect. Like there are many top quality artists being booked down here yet people would rather go see someone such as borgore for example instead leading to other nights being pretty empty. Nights such as beat redemption have disappeared out of Brighton probably because the losses are so high.

We've developed some great links over the past year aswell, so hopefully this year will be a greater success whether we phase out the bass society, keep it as a promotional tool or stick by the society.

Keep your eyes peeled for an event in the winter time..

Sounds cool. I'll get involved if you need any help.

I'm a regular Aka Aka Roar and Dubpressure attendee. I remember in early '10 when Aka Aka Roar was still weekly I went to see Appleblim and there was about 35 people there. :| Bloody shame.

Nice one man, we'll give you a shout if we need a hand ;-)

Yeah I hate it when really good dj's play to empty rooms, they're usually deserving of much better. Gutted that Dubpressure isn't goin in Brighton anymore, always had huge bookings.
