Annoying things about Playing in a club....

Post by Big MD » Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:13 am

When i started to play back in 99' the people laughed at me, cause i started up playing with CD's.
They where like: you are no real dj if you don't play with vinyl. today i'm playing with everything thats lying arround in the booth, it only needs to work well and a monitor.

See i don't wanna be like the dickheads which laughed at me because i was playing with cd's, but in the last fiew years i see the more the often this weird tracktor controller with 2 wheels on it.
It's fine, if you are one of these too which plays tracks to tracks with these too. but let me tell you one thing: if you think that pushing the sinc button is djing, you may misunderstood something. there are so many things one can do with these controllers, and they aren't even mixing clean with these things!!! init annoying?

OK OK let's not have a problem with this.... They even unplug the half of the system including the monitoring just to plug in theyr laptop/controller to the mainmixer.
Remember: they need 1 Channel, and they unplug: Both turntables, one CDJ (cause they need one for some reason, and they even don't know how to use it) and the monitoring.

If you as a "oldschool" dj need to play after them... looool your first thing to do is, to sorry to the audience about the 10 minutes or more of no music, cause they also have the sickness, to hide the eqithment and its cable somewhere at the dj booth -.-

I think that's all i wanted to say. -.-

Its like those Serato/Traktor people who don't turn up during set up to get their box in - then want to plug in their box while you're playing your last couple... spesh if you're using vinyl too its a piss take.

I think anyone who has to get behind the mixer before their set in a club is a bit annoying - theres always work around's you can do if you turn up during set up - i'd rather compromise a bit of space for my beer so I can start/finish my set without someone else getting in the way.

But why in the hell are some people unplugging the half system? even the fucking monitors! i don't understand that.

The worst for me was arriving and finding out the cue buttons on the cdjs were broken.
I thought, meh, I can do this.
Just when I start my set I realize the crossfader is also wankered and the headphone is only working on the right channel.
That was a toughy.

Walk in, No Decks or CDJs.
Locate CDJs because Decks are broken.
No RCA Cables, Use own backup RCA cables and hook up Serato box.
Drop first track and grab headphones, no headphone input?!
Locate 2nd mixer WITH a headphone input, switch mixers during 2nd track.
Move fader up for 3rd track and find that minor movement of the fader causes the volume to fade in and out.
Rage @ the absolutely haggared equipment I use EVERY tuesday.

The Loft has trained me to deal with the worst possible situations pretty much regularly xD

Annoying things about playing in a club? How about fucking everything? The only fun I've ever had playing was at house parties while totally off my face. Playing to unreceptive people who are there to dance is no fun, and neither is dropping a stack or more to do so. That's why my shit's on craigslist.

last party I did I gave my own allen & heath mixer for use. At some point in the night I went up to the booth the check everything was ok and saw that both bass EQ knobs were broken (the rubber ripped off) I'm going to the DJ saying: wtf dude; he like: ah man no worries i've got the same mixer at home happens all the time; the buttons are hot and a bit wet, just put the rubbers back on at home and it'll repair itself.

I really had to keep myself from punching him in the face right there on stage.

I like DJ'ing but I generally find it difficult to achieve that same out of body experience you get playing an instrument
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

at my gig the other night, three out of four channels had properly broken bass EQ knobs. as in, you'd turn them and nothing would happen unless you wiggled around the knob.

poor man's bozak.

I like the classic "Not enough room for the decks and cdjs" problem so you have a deck sideways and a cdj in some stupid place in front of the mixer and you have to be dahlsim to do a pitch correction. lucky ive got long arms.
